11/8
Readily off the mark over hurdles at the eleventh attempt in a very winnable novices hurdle at Carlisle last week. Penalty to carry (with cheek-pieces retained) but every chance of following up in a similar race over an identical trip (on forecast slightly slower ground).

Age: 5|  Weight: 10-12| J: Craig Nichol| T: C Grant
25/1
Soft ground Point-to-Point winner at Horse and Jockey (3m) for Andrew Slattery in mid March, and steady enough over hurdles in England since. Drops back in trip from his latest start at Hexham (2m7f) and needs to show a shade more overall, but respected longer-term.
Well beaten by 15L winner Juge Et Parti in a Bangor bumper last month, but the third placed Rockalzaro did win a moderate Carlisle bumper last week so that form is reasonable. Makes his hurdles debut at a fair level, but others (notably The Doorman) appear stronger.

18/1
Winner of a 1m Pontefract Flat handicap for Garry Moss in April 2016, but moved on mid winter to Chris Grant with little promise in two starts over hurdles. Switches stables once more, and with a tongue tie applied for the first time.

5/6
A dual bumper scorer in 2016 for Adrian Maguire, he was a heavily backed and bitterly disappointing when runner up on stable and hurdles debut at Plumpton in January (2m heavy). Possibly didn't stay at Warwick latest (2m5f), and a drop in trip combined with better ground and cheek-pieces may lead to an improved showing over timber.

80/1
Not a massive amount achieved in either of his two runs in bumpers, and pulled up on hurdles debut at Carlisle last month (wearing a hood). Needs to show more today with headgear discarded to figure.

Forecasts

Oscars Boss (5/6), The Doorman (11/8), Freewheel (18/1), Charlie's Charm (25/1), An Laoch (25/1), Strike Fear (80/1)

Verdict

Oscars Boss is undoubtedly better than we've witnessed over hurdles so far, and there are a number of reasons to expect a much improved showing in this moderate contest. However, THE DOORMAN finally got his act together over hurdes at Carlisle last week, and despite carrying a 7lb penalty, he looks by far the safest option with both trip and forecast ground conditions fairly similar this afternoon.
  1. The Doorman
  2. Oscars Boss
  3. An Laoch
