Like many at this level he is an in and out performer, but he has had plenty of going days, including when beaten less than a length at Southwell last time from 3lb higher. Turf form perhaps not quite as good, however, so may be competitive without being quite good enough to win from today's mark.

5lb higher than when winning over this trip at Chelmsford in March and has been competitive in defeat back at that venue on each of his last two runs, both from this mark. Hasn't won or even got involved on turf for almost two years, however and looks up against it.

0-4 on turf and has done most of his good work on artificial surfaces, with both wins being at Chelmsford. No problem regarding trip and fast ground but is 3lb higher than when making the frame at Nottingham last summer, so while he could compete has still has a little bit to find.

Both her wins have been at Catterick over 1m4f and with cut in the ground and all her form points to needing a stiffer test of stamina than this. Up 1lb for a decent run back at the North Yorkshire venue last time and might struggle to go the pace here.

All eight of his turf wins have been at either Hamilton or Beverley, so perhaps prefers the undulations of those venues that the flatter track he races on here. Has won over this far, though generally around 1m is his optimum and looks weighted beyond his best for the moment.

Has won just 2-34 and not yet beyond 1m or in 13 attempts on turf. Well beaten from 2lb higher at Catterick last time on his debut for this yard and has had numerous tries over this far without success, so looks best watched at present.

6lb higher than his last turf win at Beverley in August, although has scored twice over a similar trip to this at Wolverhampton in the winter, the latest from just 1lb lower. All but one of his 14 wins have been in the eye shield though he has some ordinary recent form to put behind him.

4lb higher than his last success, which came 13 months ago at Wolverhampton. Also ran well from just 1lb lower at Newcastle in August (1m2f). First start for new stable today and cheek pieces swapped for eye shield. Precautionary market check advised, although doesn't leap off the page on the face of it.

Scored over this trip at Redcar (good to firm) last month, but put up to this 3lb higher mark for her Musselburgh follow-up bid, it all happened just a bit too quickly over slightly shorter. Return to this trip will help and could go better, but clearly carries risks after just that one win from 21 starts.

1-29 career profile, with that win coming two years ago at Ayr (7f, good) from 1lb higher. Out of form for much of the interim, but went close when stepped up to 1m4f at Thirsk last time and this drop in trip might help. Decent claimer up and should go very well.

A similar CV to a few of these with just the one win from numerous attempts, in her case a Leicester seller over this trip (good to firm) a year ago. Did get competitive in a handicap back there later in the year from 5lb higher, so possibilities if she can run to that level, but that is far from a done deal.

Forecasts

Hannington (4/1), Mr Sundowner (9/2), Fillydelphia (7/1), Kerry Icon (7/1), Lean On Pete (8/1), Leonard Thomas (10/1), Diamond Runner (11/1), I'm Super Too (12/1), Scent Of Power (12/1), Outlaw Torn (16/1), First Summer (16/1)

Verdict

A poor contest with holes to be picked in the credentials of all of them and the tentative suggestion is MR SUNDOWNER, for whom the drop to this trip might just do the trick. Lean On Pete and First Summer looks capable of getting competitive, while Outlaw Torn, Kerry Icon and Scent Of Power could get involved.
  1. Mr Sundowner
  2. Lean On Pete
  3. First Summer
