Remains a maiden over hurdles but has won twice over fences and based on his last run looks as though as return to a bare 2m will suit him. Shaped better than the distance he was beaten by and the first two home have won since.

Had form for his former yard (Gordon Elliott) over hurdles but very lightly raced over hurdles since those two wins and well held for his new one recently and has plenty to do here.

Looks to have been handed a stiff mark in handicaps and hard to see what he's done to be handed a mark of 100+. Drops back in trip here but others are still preferred.

Very one dimensional in the way that he runs as he's always gunned from the front and his keen going nature can get the better of him. His one hurdles win came in a seller and he disappointed last time out over the same C&D (Fakenham) and will do well to overcome this mark back in open handicap company.

On the while she has faced some stiff tasks over hurdles and it will be interesting to see what she can do in handicaps as she makes her debut here. Her mark looks stiff enough but handicaps give her far more chance of making an impact.

Got off the mark on his third start over hurdles in a Plumpton novice and ran well off a 1lb lower mark on his second handicap start (Huntingdon, 2m). Not in the same form since in two runs and only fourth over C&D last time out.

Midnight Jitterbug21
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-9| J: Ian Popham| T: Noel Williams| OR:  102

Handed what looks to be a stiff opening mark that he ran off last time out of 105 and made little show. Only given a 3lb respite here and it may take time for him to show his best in handicaps.

Stable could not have made a better start to the new jumps campaign (14 wins on the board already) and this one moved like the best horse in the race last time on handicap debut and tongue-tie on for first time. Settled better than usual before a bad mistake at the last cost him a win and he features off the same mark here.

Peppay Le Pught24
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-1| J: N D Fehily| T: David Dennis| OR:  94

Given plenty of chances to break his hurdles maiden and has often travelled well in his races only to throw his opportunity away. Clearly not an easy sort to deal with and his profile means he's not going to make the shortlist here.

Black Buble30
Age: 4|  Weight: 11-0| J: Lee Edwards| T: A W Carroll| OR:  97
9/1
Lightly-raced sort who may well be better on quick ground as he looked to show some improved form last time out. Finished in front of Salto Chisco in that contest and with the first two having won again he's one of the more interesting ones at a price.

Blackfirep14
Age: 5|  Weight: 10-7| J: Benjamin Poste(3)| T: T Symonds| OR:  86
6/1
Still without a win over hurdles (0/16) he been placed off much higher marks in the past but does tend to get rather lit-up and can run very free. A return to the minimum trip will help but unlikely to get an easy lead with the quest for his first win set to continue.

Forecasts

Spader (7/2), Salto Chisco (5/1), Blackfire (6/1), Zante (7/1), Midnight Jitterbug (8/1), Caprice D'anglais (8/1), Black Buble (9/1), Peppay Le Pugh (12/1), Kohuma (33/1), Ermyn's Emerald (40/1), Skilled (66/1)

Verdict

This might turn out to be a little more competitive that the current market suggests Spader likely to maintain his position at the head of it after his “unlucky” run at Stratford. Dropping back to the minimum trip should help Salto Chisco with the likelihood of a strong pace set by Caprice D’anglais and Blackfire. Midnight Jitterbug looks likely to better in time in handicaps but a chance is taken here with BLACK BUBLE who ran well last time out at Stratford and the form has been boosted since by the two that finished in front of him.
  1. Black Buble
  2. Spader
  3. Salto Chisco
