Made mistakes five out and four out last time which soon had him off the bridle. Stayed on resolutely and in a manner which suggested this longer trip will help. Winner has turned out to be pretty useful and he could have been let in lightly.

Highly tried since winning two Wetherby novice hurdles during the winter. Handicap mark looks right based on what he has done so far but having stayed 2m on the Flat he may have more to offer over this longer trip.

Steps up in class with doubts remaining about his jumping. Overcame errors to win at Chepstow last time where he benefited from the favourite's exit. Needs to improve significantly to win from this mark.

Looked a nice prospect when landing a couple of summer ground bumpers. Had a confidence boosting victory last time which has earned him a 7lb penalty here. Likely to improve for the longer trip providing ground conditions remain no worse than good. Hard to evaluate on his hurdling form but his efforts in bumpers suggest he could be a lot better than we have seen.

Winner of a Plumpton novice but has been comfortably held in three handicaps since. Up in distance but others have more obvious claims.

Forecasts

Brahms De Clermont (5/4), Golden Birthday (4/1), Red Indian (4/1), Craggaknock (9/2), Minella Charmer (7/1), Resolution Bay (8/1), Robin Of Locksley (14/1)

Verdict

Minella Charmer, Resolution Bay and Red Indian have had problems with their jumping of late. Of the three Red Indian looks potentially the better handicapped having found the trip and track too sharp last time before finding the concession of a stone to a 130 rated winner too much. Robin Of Locksley and Golden Birthday appear to have their fair share of weight but BRAHMS DE CLERMONT is harder to evaluate. Two of his three runs over hurdles have been on ground softer than ideal and he made short work of modest opposition last time. Paul Nicholls' charge beat the useful Brillare Momento in a Cheltenham bumper which suggests he may be a lot better than we have seen so far. The yard are in excellent form and he may be the answer to a trappy contest.
  1. Brahms De Clermont
  2. Red Indian
  3. Minella Charmer
