Dual C&D winner over fences, and in good form over the course of the past six weeks as demonstrated by winning at Market Rasen and Sedgefield. Likes to race prominently and despite a hefty hike in the weights will have conditions in his favour.
Looked to have the race in the bag but for weakening from the last and going under by ½L to Muwalla at Sedgefield last week. Now 3lb higher, but has been on the premises twice or thrice lately and with his trainer in-form this dual Hexham scorer could well register another C&D success over fences.
Off since October 2016, so probably likely to find a few rivals sharper today. However, a four time winner over fences from 24 starts and well suited by a summer campaign and just 1lb higher than his last winning mark at Bangor in August 2016.
Veteran, and a nine time winner from 88 career starts (four from 53 over fences). Absent since January 2017 when not fluent and well beaten at Musselburgh (2m4f), and a 3lb drop in the weights is not enough to see this gelding on the short-list.
Prominent racer, who tends to go well at this track during the spring months (dual C&D winner in 2015), and handicapped to run a solid race on the strength of those pieces of form. Did well throughout March 2017 with a slight change of tactics (Market Rasen winner, and fell when travelling well at Newcastle), but less effective the past twice and debatable as to whether he's peaked earlier this year.
Stablemate of Safari Journey and off since December 2016 (pulled up at Towcester). This previous Uttoxeter and Stratford winner needs to take a sizeable step forward for his new trainer to be involved today.
Forecasts
Vodka Wells (5/6), Civil Unrest (4/1), Safari Journey (7/1), Ballycool (8/1), Gin Cobbler (10/1), Mr Robinson (50/1)
It's all about previous C&D winners in this Conditional Jockeys Handicap Chase, with Civil Unrest, VODKA WELLS and Gin Cobbler well known for strutting their stuff at this Northumberland venue. The handicapper is slowly getting to grips with the former (although he's obviously much respected given his solid recent form), whilst the last named could have peaked earlier than normal in 2017. Therefore, the Rebecca Menzies trained seven-year-old gets the nod in the hope that he can gain amends for a race that to all intents and purposes was his to lose at Sedgefield recently.
- Vodka Wells
- Civil Unrest
