Formerly with Paul Nicholls and cost £200,000 in January 2015, but has had his problems over fences lately for this trainer. Remains a maiden under rules, but no surprise to see him back over hurdles on what will be his first start over the smaller obstacles for this yard. A suitable opportunity to get his career back on track.
Started at odds of 7/2 on stable debut in the Buccleuch Cup at Kelso last month, but was beaten when falling at the fifteenth in that maiden hunters chase. Switches to hurdles at a reasonable level, but difficult to evaluate more fully at this point in time.
Cost just €3,500 after just two Point-to-Point runs in Ireland, where he might have won the second had he not fallen at the last. Well beaten on both starts this side of the Irish Sea and looks to have a tough task here stepping up in trip.

No joy in three starts in Point-to-Points, this son of Bollin Eric makes his rules debut for locally based connections at a reasonable level. His Dam (Garden Feature) was a 2m5f winning hurdler and a multiple winner of points, with an abundance of stamina.

Winner of an uncompetitive spring 2016 Irish Point-to-Point (in a slow time), and has twice bumped into King Of Fashion since switched to England. Only a limited amount of ability has been shown over hurdles so far and likely to encounter better ground today, but surely suited by handicapping going forward.
Didn't manage to get his head in front in four starts in Irish Point-to-Points despite being a half-brother to Brave Vic and Edmund Kean. Lacked the pace to stay with the first two when 15L third to Classical Milano on hurdle and stable debut over C&D last month. Returns in a similar contest, and one to keep an eye on for the future.

Now a twelve race maiden, and impossible to draw anything positive from her career form figures. First time tongue tie applied to cheek-pieces (which were tried for the first time to no avail at Sedgefield latest).

Placed in an Irish Point-to-Point (eight starts), but returned from 11 months off at Sedgefield in April 2017 when last of five to Soupy Soups (2m3½f good).

Forecasts

Hawkhurst (15/8), Pinch Of Ginger (9/4), Right Of Reply (11/4), Hey Listen (8/1), Matthew Man (14/1), Doesn'tbotherme (40/1), Left Back (66/1), Beyondtheflame (80/1)

Verdict

As uncompetitive as you can get, with a number of largely poor Point-to-Point types in the line up. HAWKHURST has had his troubles over fences for Ben Haslam, and he's basically a major disappointment having cost £200,000 in January 2015, but this looks a suitable opportunity to get off the mark and slowly rebuild both his confidence and career. Haslam won with a similar type at Carlisle on Thursday (The Doorman), and it will probably be Right Of Reply who is the chief threat to Hawkhurst.
  1. Hawkhurst
  2. Right Of Reply
  3. Pinch Of Ginger
