Successful off an 8lb lower mark over an extended 2m4f at Huntingdon (good) over hurdles in November and best run since came when beaten a short-head at Ludlow over 2m5f last month. Interesting off just a 1lb higher mark on his chase debut today.

Made the frame on each of his five chase starts to date including when winning by 5L over an extended 2m5f on good ground at Kelso last time out. Races off a 6lb higher mark and has cheekpieces added to the tongue tie he's worn on each of his chase starts to date.

Yet to win in six rules outings so far and beaten 11L into third when making his handicap debut over 2m at Chepstow (good-to-firm) last month. Races off a 1lb lower mark today and interesting with cheekpieces fitted for his handicap debut.

Shaped as if this drop in trip would suit when beaten 15½L over an extended 2m7f at Huntingdon (good-to-soft) last month. Races off the same mark here but others make more appeal in this contest.

Forecasts

Starlight Court (9/4), Whitsundays (5/2), Running Wolf (5/1), Midnight Gem (5/1), Dance In The Dust (7/1), Mustang On (12/1)

Verdict

WHITSUNDAYS has won each of his last two outings and can notch the hat-trick by taking this novices' handicap chase. Donald McCain's charge didn't always convince with his jumping when winning at Kelso last month and cheekpieces may help sharpen him up in that regard. Starlight Court has been running well enough over hurdles to suggest he can claim second upped in trip for this chasing debut while Midnight Gem, runner-up at Ludlow last month and another chasing debut can take third.
  1. Whitsundays
  2. Starlight Court
  3. Midnight Gem
