Comes into this in great form after wins at Doncaster and Towcester, on ground from soft to good to firm, so clearly very versatile on track and ground. Up another 7lb after latest win means he needs a bit more, but in good heart and may defy handicapper again.
Jumping occasionally lets him down, but capable when he puts it all together, as he showed when winning at Ffos Las (heavy ground) in December, Handles good ground but may not want it too quick. Yard firing again after a quiet time of it and not discounted.
Fell in Today Please's win at Towcester last time (too far out to say what would have happened) but earlier efforts, though okay, hardly scream out that he's a likely winner today. Just the one win in 17 starts and hard to fancy.
Caused a 33/1 surprise when winning at Ludlow on latest start, but had run a little better there the time before, so not totally out of the blue despite price. Effectively runs from same mark today (was 10lb out of the handicap that day) and if in same form, has an excellent chance.
Won a couple last winter at Ffos Las and Wincanton, but recent efforts suggest he's gone right off the boil and he can't be looked at as a likely winner unless turning that form around. Too much to prove at present.
Forecasts
Today Please (13/8), Cape Caster (2/1), Saffron Prince (13/2), River Purple (7/1), Guanciale (17/2)
There's the possibility of a false pace here, as none of these has made the running in any of their recent races. A chance is taken that RIVER PURPLE might hold onto his form for another run or two now he's found it, as he's still nicely handicapped on his best form and has conditions to suit. Today Please isn't doing anything wrong but has a bit more weight on his back this time, and may need a touch more to win again. Cape Caster comes from a yard going better and should go well if putting in a clear round.
