Course winner (2m1f outer track) in October 2014 from a 2lb lower mark, but absent for the best part of two years thereafter. Returned in good shape during the 2016/17 campagin, steadily recapturing his form on his last two outings at Newcastle in January. Up 4lb since his narrow defeat by Rhymers Stone latest but a major player tonight.

Well suited by decent ground at an ideally slightly longer trip than this, but ran well on his most recent outing at Wincanton last month despite being no match for the ready winner San Satiro. Not won since August 2013, but has a reasonable opportunity to potentially put that right in this race.

A winner at Wetherby in April 2016 (2m5f) from a 10lb lower mark, this gelding has found life tougher since. However, back from a near seven month break over C&D last month, he was a fair second to Lord Ballim (beaten 8L) and is entitled to be sharper for that start.

Forecasts

Breaking Bits (11/8), Lowcarr Motion (2/1), Captain Clayton (9/4), Call The Cops (12/1)

Verdict

Both Breaking Bits and Lowcarr Motion come into this race on the back of reasonable enough recent runs, but equally both were fairly comfortably held by much better rivals. Call The Cops is regressing quickly and can't be fancied to take a hand, so the rather confident selection is CAPTAIN CLAYTON. The form of his penultimate start at Newcastle has worked out well, and he took a further step forward when beaten by three quarters of a length by Rhymers Stone at Gosforth Park in January, and this looks very winnable despite a subsequent (and probably merited) 4lb rise.
  1. Captain Clayton
  2. Lowcarr Motion
  3. Breaking Bits
