Won two races over a mile last year at Redcar (claimer) and a Thirsk handicap off a 3lb lower mark handling the soft ground well. Returned on the AW after a long break making his debut on the surface but looked as though he needed the race failing to beat a rival home.
Pitched into a handicap for the first time after three maiden runs all of which has been fairly modest. Has really failed to see any of his races out over varying trips and hard to know what to expect with his yard a little quiet at the moment.
The return to turf over the last few weeks looks to have brought about his latest good run of form with a win at Nottingham being his best recent run. Certainly not disgraced last time out when a good fourth at Haydock over a mile and should continue to give a good account over a slightly longer trip here.
Has tended to run well around here and landed his only win for this in-form yard when scoring over a mile last year (took advantage of a weight drop). His runs this year have a rather inconsistent look about them and he needs to see his races out better. Front running style may not be helped by the wide draw.
A dual winner around here (both wins over a mile) and those wins came back-to-back in 2015. Handicapper gradually gave him a chance after those wins but his Newcastle AW win rather came out of the blue two runs ago. His all or nothing style being exhibited in his last two runs which have seen him regress once more.
One of the few in this field that have shown any progression this year with two runner-up spots on the AW over 1m2f preceding her Redcar win over the same trip on her return to turf. May well have had a slight tactical edge in her Redcar win but should still be competitive off just a 3lb higher mark.
Cheekpieces go on for the first time (has been tried in blinkers before and won in them) but even off a lowly mark others are preferred here with the losing run getting longer and longer.
A record of 0/14 probably tells most of the story here although he has managed a few placed efforts off lowly marks. Started favourite on his last two starts although the positive effects of the visor are appearing to wear off now and he looked far from keen last time out.
Returns to the track after a lengthy break having shown his best form when winning at Carlisle last year over 1m1f off a basement mark. Failed to back that win up in two subsequent starts and may well need the run against some race-fit types here.
Forecasts
Cosmic Ray (5/4), Adventureman (6/1), Kerry Icon (6/1), A Boy Named Sue (7/1), Tambour (11/1), Let Right Be Done (16/1), Scruffy Mcguffy (16/1), Nelson's Bay (20/1), Eeny Mac (66/1)
Very little in the way of quality here with COSMIC RAY looking the most solid having shown some decent placed form either side of his Nottingham win. Kerry Icon is another with a chance although she did have the run of the race last time while you are never quite sure what to expect from Adventureman who does figure on a good mark. Tambour is the dark horse in the race although his stable are rather quiet at the moment and A Boy Named Sue could take a hand in the finish if he is on a going day.
- Cosmic Ray
- Kerry Icon
- Adventureman
