Twice a winner in handicap hurdles last year but hasn't translated that ability over fences, yet, his six starts not really showing him in a good light. Trip too short on latest outing and this is easier, but needs to find improvement all the same.

Stays well and handles good ground, and knows how to win when the opportunity arises as he showed at Perth last September, and turned in another good effort at Musselburgh in November under similar conditions. Has to be considered from this mark.

Won this race when an odds-on chance last year, although finds himself some 18lb higher this time around. However, hurdles mark much higher so should handle it, and recent warm up over hurdles will have put him spot-on for a repeat.

Best form this season came at Fairyhouse when a staying-on second to Irish Bulletin over 3m, and two efforts since can possibly be excused as soft ground may not have suited. No win since 2014, however, and not getting any younger either.

Gone off big prices in races he had little chance in recently, but hasn't shown enough to be of interest here. Not really bred for the job either and despite the fact he's open to more improvement than most here, needs to find plenty of it.

Won a recent point-to-point at Fairyhouse and although that was only a minor event, he won it with some authority, and seems to be going the right way. Could be nicely handicapped here and as one that comes into this in some form, looks a player.

Has failed to complete in his last four starts and still hard to know what his best conditions are. Others hold more pressing claims.

Ran a little better than finishing position suggested at Fairyhouse last time, and a chance that these conditions might suit better on breeding. Suspicion is there's better to come over fences and may well perform better than the market expects.

Bounced back to form with a good second to Presenting Julio at Tramore last time out, but the worries would be that he's only won one of his 44 starts and may well be suited by slower ground than he's likely to get here. Respected, but others preferred.

Hasn't shown any form of note for a long while now, not beating a horse home at Kilbeggan last time, weakening quickly. Too much on her plate here.

No win in 11 starts to date and hasn't shown enough to be considered a likely winner of this., pulling up when last seen out in December., Too much to prove.

Is at least performing with a degree of consistency over fences at present, and only win to date came at Downpatrick, so this veteran does have a couple of things going for him, but is no win machine and a place more likely again.

Not been seen out since a respectable effort at Fairyhouse back in the November of 2015, so absence since an obvious worry, but is a C&D winner and handles these conditions fine. On a winning mark and market the best guide here.

Yet to win in 15 starts although shows the odd glimmer of ability, as when a staying-on second to Fluspar at Tramore in December (heavy ground). Not disgraced back over hurdles last time, but overall profile suggests others have stronger claims.

Forecasts

Redclue (3/1), Kilderry Prince (4/1), Town Pond (7/1), Willow Grange (8/1), Prosperity Square (8/1), Court Adjourned (10/1), Theatre One (11/1), Scripturient (12/1), Mollies Gent (12/1), Ancient Highway (12/1), Dorkas (14/1), Mason Dixon (16/1), Celtic Thunder (20/1), Killeen Elegance (20/1), Coral Pearl (25/1)

Verdict

Quantity rather than quality here, but a winner is a winner. Last year's winner REDCLUE gets the vote as he's on a winning mark, has ideal conditions again and should be fitter for a recent spin over hurdles. Mollies Gent holds solid claims on the best of his form and may well bounce back. Theatre One is one of a few to consider for the places.
  1. Redclue
  2. Mollies Gent
  3. Theatre One
