Age: 7|  Weight: 11-4| J: Adrian Heskin| T: T R George| OR:  125
1/1
Shock 33/1 winner of a mares bumper at Aintree in October 2016 on her first start for this yard, and had shown fair form since switched to novice hurdles against her own sex before getting off the mark at the third attempt over timber at Ludlow (5/4f) earlier in the month. Encounters faster ground but this looks a reasonable event in which to carry a penalty.

Her 9L Ayr success in late February was her first since her bumper days, and whilst regularly placed over hurdles generally tends to find a few rivals stronger. She was well held on a similar surface last time at Sedgefield (third) which suggests place prospects are again her most likely objective.

Was based with Stuart Crawford when winning a Perth bumper on debut in September 2016, but has since moved onto this high profile yard. A shade disappointing on hurdles debut at Bangor in January, but made no mistake at the second attempt when downing Djarkalin in a maiden hurdle at Ludlow ten days ago.

10L mares bumper winner at Carlisle in May 2015, and proved reliable enough in that sphere. Off for almost two years when unsurprisingly totally out of her depth last time at Aintree, but makes her hurdles debut today at a much more realistic level.
£55,000 purchase at the Cheltenham May Sales (2016) following her debut success in 3m four-year-old mares PTP at Necarne. However, has disappointed in both starts over hurdles so far, and needs this better ground to bring about a significant amount of improvement.

Started at three figure odds in all three runs in bumpers, and has generally struggled to beat many rivals home, finishing seventh of eight when last in action at Catterick in March. Makes her hurdles debut.

Now zero from five over hurdles and her mark is plummeting; down from 89 to 77, but that appears a fair reflection of her chances. Never better than a midfield finish, she's a likely outsider in this race.

Age: 5|  Weight: 10-12| J: Henry Brooke| T: I Jardine
11/1
Beaten a fair distance, but was placed on her first two starts in bumpers (including at this track in June 2016), but hasn't exactly went forward since. She possibly found the trip on the sharp side last time on her second hurdles start at Sedgefield last month, and with the ground riding quick today is most likely to do so once again.
Her second run in a bumper at Ayr last month was probably a minor improvement on her debut effort at Musselburgh in January, but she looked rather short of pace, and others are much preferred. Makes her hurdles debut.

Age: 5|  Weight: 10-12| J: Blair Campbell(7)| T: Miss Lucinda V Russell| OR:  95
20/1
A well held runner up on her second hurdles start at Hexham in March, she was beaten when taking a heavy fall at the last behind Grace Tara in a moderate event at Kelso earlier this month. Improvement needed, but this drop back in trip looks advisable.

Forecasts

Miss Night Owl (1/1), War Creation (2/1), Verona Opera (6/1), River Icon (11/1), Boogie Life (16/1), Topham Bay (20/1), Final Reminder (40/1), Wide Awake (50/1), Just Brooke (66/1), Side Of The Road (100/1), Lucarno Dancer (200/1), Katy Royal (250/1)

Verdict

Not a great amount of strength in depth, with the previous winners MISS NIGHT OWL and War Creation probably vulnerable under penalties if facing stronger rivals. However, a chance is taken that the Tom George trained mare will handle this likely faster ground and have just enough in the locker to see off Nicky Henderson's Ludlow winner. Of the remainder, given her purchase price, you'd like to be seeing Final Reminder doing better at some point sooner rather than later.
  1. Miss Night Owl
  2. War Creation
  3. Verona Opera
