Inconsistent type but effective when everything falls right, as seen at Taunton in December, proving effective on fast ground. May have needed recent reappearance at that track and likely we still haven't seen the best out of him so not discounted.

Struggled on both his starts in December having looked an exciting prospect earlier last year. May have been amiss and this step up in trip could suit so may be capable of bouncing back.

Keen-going sort who posted his best effort when second at Wetherby in November. Bounced back from some disappointing runs over an extended 2m4f here last time and not impossible he will build on that for a trainer who won this last year.

Looked mildly progressive last season but has a struggled badly on his latest three starts. Seems to have developed jumping frailties and needs the first-time blinkers to bring the very best out of him if he's to get competitive.

Has been running consistently well over hurdles this season. Struggled over fences last time from a reduced mark but should get back on track back in this discipline and clearly thriving, so not dismissed with the Champion Jockey up. Will have to defy a career-high mark though.

Won a couple of point-to-points before making a fair impression in a solitary start for Paul Nicholls. Recently swapped hands for £28,000 and ran well on yard debut at Ludlow but struggled last time out at Warwick. Still early days though and less miles on the clock than most in this field so could go well off a fair looking mark.

No impact in novice hurdle events but began life in handicaps off a low mark as a result and improved to win over 2m6f (soft) at Ffos Las last month. Tough task to repeat off a 7lb higher mark in this company but trainer does well with a limited number of runners and not dismissed out of hand.

Some useful form back in 2015 and obviously well-handicapped if he returned to that level of ability but very disappointing on six starts for this yard and has it all to prove, particularly at his age.

Showed nothing on his handicap debut at Wetherby in February following similarly-poor displays in novice hurdles and well beaten here last time out over an extended 2m4f. Not without market support that day and this looks a positive jockey booking so there could be improvement to come upped in trip again.

Forecasts

Tudors Treasure (10/3), Royal Supremo (9/2), Conteur d'Histoire (9/2), Midnight Monty (7/1), Gasoline (7/1), Laugharne (17/2), Generous Chief (9/1), The Happy Chappy (16/1), Buckontupence (25/1), Blackwell Synergy (33/1)

Verdict

Jonjo O'Neill won this last year with Bronco Billy and he looks like he has a fair chance of landing this renewal with CONTEUR D'HISTOIRE. He bounced back here last time and could be on a lenient mark so he warrants respect with Noel Fehily taking over from a 5lb conditional jockey. Tudors Treasure has been slowly improving and while this is a deeper race, a 7lb rise doesn't look too harsh for his recent win at Ffos Las. The Happy Chappy was disappointing last time but he may be able to prove he's on a nice mark here.

  2. Tudors Treasure
  3. The Happy Chappy
