Has won on good ground, though a soft ground Exeter handicap hurdle was his most recent victory back in November. 2lb higher today and has not been in the best of form over further, so now returned to the minimum trip he looks capable of making an impact with yard back in red hot form.
Point-to-point winner who has taken a while to come to hand over hurdles, but put his best hoof forward last time when runner-up over C&D (good). Interesting that top yard now opts for this route immediately and on a workable mark of 110. Money for him would heighten interest.
8lb higher than when winning at Newton Abbot last year (2m1f, good to soft) and was firmly anchored from this mark on his next two starts. Hasn't yet produced a good performance when fresh and so has plenty to prove here.
Proven on good to firm as when winning at Wincanton in October from 5lb lower. Has been competitive without winning from this sort of mark and should benefit from a recent pipe-opener. Not ruled out, although may find a couple too good.
Two of her six career wins have been over C&D, though all of those wins have had at least some cut in the ground and some when conditions have been heavy. Only 1lb higher than her highest winning mark, but clearly has a fair bit to prove on a sound surface, as recent efforts underline.
Has been winning races since 2010, though less so of late, his most recent being 13 months ago at Towcester (2m, soft) from 10lb higher. Goes well on fast ground but has had plenty of chances when looking well treated and not taken advantage.
Sole success over hurdles was in a Ffos Las maiden last season. Was beaten just a short head from a mark of 114 on fast ground at Wincanton in October, but he is another who has slid in the weights but not capitalised. Couldn't completely rule out a win but clearly carries risks.
6lb out of the handicap and without a win since 2013. Recent efforts leave plenty to be desired and impossible to recommend today.
Forecasts
Third Act (9/2), Bobble Boru (9/2), Dance In The Dust (5/1), Billy My Boy (11/2), Grams And Ounces (11/2), Borak (7/1), Bumble Bay (10/1), Orthodox Lad (14/1)
It is very interesting that Jonjo O'Neill chooses to switch Dance In The Dust to handicapping after his first sign of form in novices' company, so he may feel that he can exploit his initial handicap mark and if supported he could have a big say. Billy My Boy is likely to be thereabouts, but with the yard back in tremendous form THIRD ACT is taken to come back to form now dropped back in trip.
- Third Act
- Dance In The Dust
- Billy My Boy
