Versatile staying chaser/hurdler who is 4lb higher today than his best winning mark over fences, though ran with plenty of credit from just 2lb lower over hurdles in the autumn. Back after a winter break today, though has not yet won when fresh. Market check advised.
Has been in decent form during the winter and won both at Huntingdon and then again at Taunton last time. Raised 4lb for that, in which the front pair were 7L clear. May need a career best, but entitled to be heavily involved.
Point-to-point runner-up who has yet to make an impact over hurdles at middle distances. Stepped up to this trip for the first time under rules, he may make more of an impact, though he is likely to need a drop in the weights before winning.
Stays well and acts on a sound surface. Not seen since last spring and has left Tim Vaughan for new yard since. Yet to win when fresh, so perhaps a watching brief is best advice this time.
Probably weighted up to the ceiling of his current ability. Won here over 2m2½f a couple of starts ago (soft) but acts on a sound surface. However, even his clear love for this venue was not enough when stepped up to this trip last time and first and foremost he has to prove that he sees it out.
Sole win was over 2m (soft) at Wetherby last season in novices' company, but ran well from today's mark in a handicap after that. Capable of being involved and certainly not beyond improvement, though he has tended to need at least one run before being at his best.
0-11, with his sole success being disqualified when his rider returned 2lb light. Stays well and has remained competitive in his last two runs. Has it to prove on this ground but otherwise looks a leading player.
Forecasts
Brian Boranha (11/4), Muthabir (7/2), Shanty Town (5/1), Overtheedge (15/2), Benenden (8/1), Uncle Tone (8/1), Bowie (8/1)
Muthabir looks likely to be tough to beat here given the nature of his win last time and just a 4lb rise, while Shanty Town should do better now stepped up in trip. Several of them are likely to need this, but BRIAN BORANHA won't be found wanting for fitness. He has been unlucky not to have a win to his name and with a hungry Tom Scudamore up, today could be the day that he breaks his duck.
