Successful over 3m on good ground at Musselburgh in December. Has run well off this revised mark the last twice including when finishing third over 2m4f last time out and interesting here.

Grove Silverv35
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-8| J: Sean Quinlan| T: J Candlish| OR:  124
11/1
Winner over 2m4f at Carlisle last month and has form over more extreme trips. Yet to win in this class but has run some good races in defeat at this level. Some time since he has been competitive off this mark.
3
Horse silk
Petite Powert18
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-6| J: P J Brennan| T: F O'Brien| OR:  122
4/1
Improving chaser who was in the process of running a big race at Chepstow when coming down at the last. Trainer 7-26 in chases here and no reason why he should not give a good account.
4
Horse silk
Lord Ballimh,t11
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-4| J: C Gethings(3)| T: N J Hawke| OR:  120
5/1
Settled the issue in a matter of strides at Carlisle once unleashed. Looked to be well ahead of the handicapper and a further 9lb rise is justified. Should see out this trip and no obvious reason why he should not land a fourth straight win.

Yet to establish a credible record over fences. Hurdling form suggests she is a dour stayer having beaten the useful Straidnahana in heavy ground. Would be well handicapped over fences if that form was replicated.
6

6/1
Jumped poorly at Uttoxeter last time and has been made to look one paced of late. Back over a more suitable trip and won a hurdle here last year over 3m2f.

Calivigny21
Age: 8|  Weight: 10-13| J: Lucy Alexander| T: N W Alexander| OR:  115
7/1
Excuses are beginning to wear thin and he has probably wasted easier opportunities than this. Last win in 2015 was over this trip.
8
Horse silk
Baysbrown168
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-12| J: Brian Harding| T: N G Richards| OR:  114
14/1
Makes chasing debut for yard that are 5-22 with runners in this discipline at this track. Comes here fresh from a break and off an 11lb higher mark than when scoring over hurdles here in September.

Bright Prospectp36
Age: 8|  Weight: 10-11| J: Craig Nichol| T: Mrs J Stephen| OR:  113
20/1
13lb higher than when taking a Perth novices' handicap chase in August by 17L. Pulled up at Wetherby last time and hard to fancy.
10
Horse silk
Ballythomas17
Age: 10|  Weight: 10-3| J: Henry Brooke| T: D Thompson| OR:  103
10/1
Winner of a couple of minor races before chasing home the well handicapped Ganbei at Market Rasen. That horse has breezed up again since so the effort looks even better now.

Forecasts

Petite Power (4/1), Jovial Joey (9/2), Lord Ballim (5/1), Allthegear No Idea (6/1), Calivigny (7/1), Ballythomas (10/1), Grove Silver (11/1), Baysbrown (14/1), Billy Billy (16/1), Bright Prospect (20/1)

Verdict

Nigel Hawke has done a great job of placing his horses of late. This seems a logical progression for LORD BALLIM who has plundered three prizes at Carlisle this year. Grove Silver is one of his few rivals who may be a legitimate performer in this grade whilst Petite Power, Allthegear No Idea and Baysbrown represent yards that do well here.
  1. Lord Ballim
  2. Grove Silver
  3. Petite Power
