Not been seen much over hurdles since 2015, with just two runs in that time including when pulled up at Towcester earlier in the month. Has slipped to a more attractive mark and taken a drop in class, so may be able to show more.
Never involved when push has come to shove in eight starts and absolutely no encouragement whatsoever from his latest Fontwell effort. Impossible to recommend.
Won a 1m6f Catterick seller on the Flat last summer and rated in the 70s in that sphere, so his hurdles form is not as good by comparison. Made the frame over this trip in a Plumpton handicap hurdle (good to soft) last month but that was a bit like an oasis in a desert and hard to fancy from 3lb higher today.
Beaten 5L from today's mark when runner-up at Newton Abbot in September, but failed to go on from that. Returns from a five month break today and yet to run well under rules when fresh, which is a concern.
Trainer has struggled to find an opportunity for him, but this looks more like it. Runner-up over further in a soft ground Bangor handicap in January. Cheek pieces failed to work the oracle at Catterick last time and remains on same mark, but with positive tactics here he could so some damage.
Wide margin winner of a dire Plumpton novices' handicap last time (2m1½f, good to firm), but at least he proved that he is well, that this is his sort of trip and that he likes fast ground. Not unappealing under a penalty, although taking that win at face value probably carries a health warning.
3lb lower here than when running well in context to be fourth, beaten just over 5L at Lingfield (2m3½f, heavy) in January. Well beaten both starts since then. Still has it to prove regarding this shorter trip and the ground. Best watched unless significant support.
Both hurdles and Flat mark on the decline at the moment and remains a maiden in both. Failed to complete on last two hurdles runs and cannot be recommended today.
Forecasts
Wonga Swinger (13/8), Denny Kerrell (7/2), Only A Tipple (4/1), The Kid (5/1), Sweeping Rock (12/1), Buz Barton (16/1), Put The Boot In (50/1), Westfield King (50/1)
Sweeping Rock looks more interesting with this drop in class and support for either he or Denny Kerrell may be prove significant in such a moderate contest. Wonga Swinger will look obvious after a 13L success last time and having just a 7lb penalty to shoulder, but that was possibly a weaker race than this and so it may pay dividends to side with ONLY A TIPPLE, who has shown glimpses of ability and his stamina could be used to good effect no this stiff track, under what will hopefully be a positive ride.
- Only A Tipple
- Wonga Swinger
- Sweeping Rock
