Horse A-Z
Cost €3,500 as a three-year-old, but posted a good debut effort when 9L third to the progressive pair Sam's Adventure and McGowan's Pass at Ayr in January (heavy). That form was franked by the seventh placed Bruichladdich winning here over hurdles last month, and improvement can be anticipated.
Sixth foal home bred and a brother to Point-to-Point winner Merry Eric and a half-brother to Merry Minister. Long term future likely to be over fences and difficult to see him being involved in the finish.
€25,000 three-year-old by Mahler out of Spirit Of Clanagh. Well related and represents a trainer who often does well with first-time out bumper runners. Watch the market closely.

Clear promise in chasing home decisive 8L winner Al Shahir on debut at Newcastle in February, but was perhaps bogged down in tacky conditions when last of three to Tikkanbar at Sedgefield a few weeks later. Better ground could suit, and every chance on that Newcastle debut in a seemingly 'weaker' race.
Fourth placed finishes in both starts in bumpers so far (at Navan in December 2016, and at Wetherby in February 2017). Can be expected to play a hand at this level with her trainer renowned for his successes in bumpers (and with a top jockey booked). Contender.

Cost just £800 in January 2017, this Black Sam Bellamy mare was probably bought on her pedigree alone, but she showed precious little on debut at Musselburgh when a tailed off tenth of 12 to Kelpies Myth (March 2017). Early days, but quite possible that the racing game isn't her longer term future. Wears a hood.

Beaten 18L on debut for Mark Walford when third in a mares bumper at Wetherby in November 2016 (winner Petticoat Tails won by 12L). Her Dam Annie's Answer was a point/bumper and hurdles winner, and this mare has now moved onto a leading Northern stable with improvement possible over time. Wears a hood.

Forecasts

Schiaparannie (13/8), Questionation (7/2), Big Bad Dream (9/2), Wig Wam Wiggle (11/2), Silk Or Scarlet (7/1), French Ticket (16/1), Boss Des Malberaux (25/1), Beyondperfection (33/1), Reivers Lodge (125/1)

Verdict

The Tim Fitzgerald trained Silk Or Scarlet is the horse to watch for sustained market support, and if an 'avalanche' of support arrives, he can be expected to go very close. However, the likes of Big Bad Dream, Questionation and WIG WAM WIGGLE have already posted fair form in bumpers. The selection was a particularly eye-catching 8L second to the much more experienced Al Shahir at Newcastle in February. Of the remainder, Schlaparannie can do better with time for her new trainer Malcolm Jefferson.
  1. Wig Wam Wiggle
  2. Silk Or Scarlet
  3. Big Bad Dream
