Cost €16,000 as a yearling in 2013 and made a promising debut on soft ground here when finishing less than 10L behind the winner in a similar race to this in January. Has to put a disappointing Chepstow effort last time out behind him but a leading player if repeating that debut effort.

Held an 8L advantage and still travelling well when falling two out on his second point-to-point start at Tallow in February. Subsequently joined this stable and interesting with the yard's horses running well at present (13/54).
Stepped up on two previous bumper outings when wearing a tongue tie (retained here) for the first time in finishing runner-up at Bangor (soft) last time out. Likely to prove hard to beat if repeating that effort.
Unraced son of Dubai Destination purchased for £15,000 as a three-year-old at the sale in May last year. Dam unraced and worth a check in the market on debut.

Unraced son of Mahler cost €40,000 as a three-yaer-old last year. Dam an unraced half-sister to the useful Like Your Style amongst others and interesting for a yard who have a 26% strike-rate in these races in recent seasons (27/218).

Unraced son of Sulamani. Cost connections £36,000 as a three-year-old in 2016 and a full-brother to the useful Sppirit Of Shankly and a half-brother to dual winner Bells On Sunday. Market support would be noteworthy on debut.
Unraced Beneficial gelding. Purchased for €40,000 at the sales in Ireland last year and a half-brother to Flat winner Ring Eye (also placed over hurdles). Dam won four times over hurdles and worth a check in the market here.
Unraced son of Montmartre bought for £25,000 at the store sales last year. Half-brother to three jumps winners at up to 3m and interesting for a yard with a 21% strike-rate in bumpers in recent seasons (15/71).

Forecasts

World Premier (5/2), Gortroe Joe (7/2), Mahlervous (11/2), Atlantic Grey (6/1), Stipend (7/1), Sailor Sam (8/1), Saturdaynightfever (12/1), General Malarkey (16/1), Boughtbeforelunch (20/1)

Verdict

GORTROE JOE looked a likely winner when falling at the second last on his second point-to-point outing at Tallow in early February and he can take this second division of the bumper on his rules debut. Of his rivals Saturdaynightfever is related to a couple of very useful performers, both of whom were successful on debut and he can claim second ahead of Mahlervous who's yard have a good strike-rate in bumpers in recent years.
  1. Gortroe Joe
  2. Saturdaynightfever
  3. Mahlervous
