Excelebration colt who took a nice looking fielding apart at Haydock on debut. Couldn't have done that any more impressively and bought by Godolphin since so should go well for a stable in red hot form. Holds 2,000 Guineas and Dante entries.
Frankel colt who won a nice looking race on debut at Doncaster earlier in the month. Put the race to bed with an impressive turn of foot and while he looked a little inexperienced (looked around and changed his legs a couple of times) it was an impressive debut. The experience over the straight 7f at Doncaster will help him here and he's sure to improve for that run. Holds Irish and English 2,000 Guineas entries and looks like a leading player in this.
Back-to-back winner at the end of summer, 2016 and bounced back from a disappointing effort at Newmarket with a good second over C&D in a Group 3. Looks a little more exposed than some in here though and best efforts have come with cut in the ground.
Has won four of his five starts this year but this is a major step up in a class and hasn't shown enough to suggest he's going to mix it at this level.
Easy soft ground winner at Salisbury last time, gaining compensation for a runner-up effort at Ascot on debut where he was unlucky not to win. Has to step up again but travels well and should give another good account.
Winner of a local Group Two in Doha before finishing a respectable second at Lingfield last time, just failing to last home. Placed in Group 2 company last year but more exposed than most in this field and it would probably have to be a below par renewal if he was to get his head in front.
Won a Lingfield maiden but struggled to get his head in front in Group company at the end of last year. Respectable effort in a Group 3 on latest start but limitations exposed to some extend and his yard are on a poor run of form.
Third behind Rivet in a York maiden but failed to justify favouritism at Yarmouth on second start. Went on to get off the mark at Newmarket towards the end of the season, but nothing special about that form and he will need to have come on plenty this winter if he's to figure.
Well beaten on debut but has won back-to-back races at Dundalk since, most recent effort in Listed contest coming just last week. Likely to enjoy the fast ground and could come on for that recent effort so plenty to like about his chances.
Won his York maiden in taking fashion and ran with great credit in a Newmarket Group 3 at the end of the season. Form of that race looks rock solid and the yard are flying so he should go close for a jockey that rides this course well.
Forecasts
Dream Castle (9/4), Barney Roy (5/2), War Secretary (9/2), Zainhom (8/1), Make Time (17/2), Via Serendipity (20/1), Kings Gift (25/1), Mr Scaramanga (25/1), Sea Fox (33/1), Lord Cooper (100/1)
It's hard to get away from the claims of ZAINHOM who performed with credit in defeat when contesting an above average Group 3 at Newmarket at the end of last year. War Secretary represents Aidan O'brien's yard and his runners are always worth respecting when sent to these shores, particularly when this colt is race fit from a recent Listed win. The Godolphin pair, Barney Boy and Dream Castle, are entirely unexposed and the latter showed that he's likely to come on plenty for his most recent run. Make Time looks like an interesting runner at what is likely to be a bigger price after his dominant Salisbury performance last time out.
- Zainhom
- Dream Castle
- Make Time
