Consistent stayer with cut in the ground. Won here over 2m4½f (soft) in January when in maiden company and scored by a wide margin at Hexham last time (heavy). Switches to handicapping from what looks a fair mark and is short-list material.
Chasing a four-timer here and has gone up 14lb for his three recent staying wins. Front two were a distance clear again last time and looks a strong contender once again on that evidence.
Last six starts have all been here, gradually stepping up in trip and tries this far for the first time today. Won over 2m5½f on heavy in maiden company in January and has had short break since last seen when unseating too soon to tell if he would have been competitive from this mark. Interesting.
Uttoxeter bumper winner last spring but comfortably held in all three starts this term in novices' contests. Steps up in trip again, which should suit given that he won a point-to-point and it will be interesting to see what the market says about his chance with the champion booked.
Both wins at Wincanton, including a maiden hurdle last time over 2m4f. Raised 4lb for that and switches to a handicap for the first time. More than likely to stay and is another interesting contender.
All three starts this season have been here, winning over 2m on heavy ground in January. Just held here last month under a penalty when the front pair were clear and has claims again.
Point-to-point winner who should be suited by this step up in trip to 3m for the first time under rules. Makes his handicap debut from what looks a fair mark and a market check is advised.
Scored at Doncaster on good ground in December (2m3½f) and probably improved on that run despite defeat under a penalty last time. Another making her handicap debut today and on pedigree she should relish this step up in trip.
Yet another runner going handicapping for the first time and stepping up in trip simultaneously. Won a point-to-point, so trip should suit, while has also won over 2m, so not short of pace. Ground no problem and should be involved.
3lb higher than when winning at Exeter in December, but has struggled in both starts since. Pedigree suggests that seeing out this trip is not a done deal and looks one to take on today.
Carlisle bumper winner this time last year and has run with credit in a couple of novices' contests this time. Well beaten on handicap debut at Wetherby when last seen and races from same mark today, though had excuse with lost shoe and not one to lose interest in yet.
Forecasts
Winningtry (5/1), Thomas Shelby (5/1), Robintheaulad (6/1), Sammy B (6/1), Just Milly (7/1), King Of Fashion (8/1), Rockportian (8/1), Trans Express (12/1), Strong Economy (20/1), Glingerside (20/1), Important Moment (25/1)
Very competitive and with so many first-time handicappers the market will be as good-a-guide as any as to expectations. King Of Fashion should be thereabouts, though the same can be said of Robintheaulad, Winningtry and Rockportian. Thomas Shelby is another who can get competitive, though preference is for SAMMY B, who is in rattling good form and looks capable of winning again.
- Sammy B
- King Of Fashion
- Robintheaulad
