Very likeable handicap chaser over the minimum trip who looks to be struggling for his form of late though. He's starting to drop in the weights but did run a poor race in this grade last time out and even though he's dropped another chunk in the weights here he looks a rather risky proposition at present.

Threw away his best recent winning chance when falling at the last on his penultimate start at Kempton Park. Could well have been feeling the effects of that fall last time out when running poorly at Sandown off a 1lb higher mark. Often travels well in his races without finding much at the business end and he's tried in a visor for the first time (has been tried in cheekpieces).

Yet to win over hurdles or fences and while his last three runs over fences have looked creditable they haven't been any better than his hurdles runs. He did shape well enough when falling last time and off the same mark here must have a chance against some rivals that are hardly in top form.

Showed his better side when winning here in March over C&D when the stable were going through a real purple patch. Failed to follow-up that run at Southwell when returned to the track quickly after his wide-margin win under a penalty and has struggled off marks this high before. The cheekpieces now worn for the last three runs are dispensed with and blinkers tried for the first time.

Forecasts

Lou Vert (5/4), Starkie (3/1), Gores Island (7/2), Pearls Legend (4/1)

Verdict

A good race for the track and all four can be given some sort of chance despite all of them having some question marks against them. Pearls Legend is being given a real chance by the handicapper now and would be very dangerous off this mark if he came back to form. Both Starkie and Gores Island travel well within their races but their finishing efforts can leave something to be desired. All of that leaves LOU VERT who has yet to win but has shown some good form in his three starts over fences so far and looked a little unlucky when falling last time out.
  1. Lou Vert
  2. Pearls Legend
  3. Gores Island
