Taken him a long time to drop in the ratings but is now on a handy looking mark. Was yet to really be popped a question when he parted company with Richie McLernon (at the 12th) over C&D last time out and is likely to make a bold bid to gain compensation if he has suffered no ill effects.

Up 4lb for winning at Wetherby last month but still has room to manoeuvre from his current mark. Also praiseworthy that he has a previous C&D win to his name. One for the shortlist with an in-form 7lb conditional booked for the ride.

Unbeaten over fences (admittedly from only two starts) and is going the right way. The fact he won over 3m in a point-to-point earlier in his career bolsters his claims even further, and the step up in trip isn't expected to pose too many problems. A 16lb hike in the ratings since February is more of a concern but the manner of his latest success created the impression that he hasn't hit the buffers just yet. Big chance.

Made the most of a plummeting handicap mark to win a three-runner handicap at Plumpton last month. Had previously looked regressive, so needs to prove that wasn't just a flash-in-the pan and a 6lb higher mark, combined with a stiffer level of competition, leaves him vulnerable here.

Ended a long losing run from a 2lb higher mark last summer and can be expected to be sharper for his recent reappearance at Wetherby. Needs to be at his very best over this trip though.

Forecasts

Join The Clan (9/4), Ardmayle (9/4), Open Hearted (5/2), Gold Ingot (8/1), Turban (10/1)

Verdict

A chance is taken that the progressive ARDMAYLE has a bit more to offer despite creeping up the weights and tackling three miles for the first time over regulation fences. Open Hearted also has scope for improvement and, having gone well over C&D in the past, he has to be considered as a threat. While Join The Clan is better than his form figures would suggest and would be dangerous to underestimate.

  2. Open Hearted
