Showed some fair form for his previous yard last year and was placed on his last three runs. Looks well bought for£26,000 for his new connections and he could well make his mark over 7f and further in handicaps in the North.
Both Flat runs have come on the AW (has also run in an AW bumper) but he looked fairly limited on his first run at Newcastle for this yard. So far a long way from living up to his decent pedigree as he has his first start on turf.
Didn't really threaten on his debut at Doncaster earlier this month over 7f. Blinkers that were fitted for his debut remain here but he would need to show more to take a hand.
Showed very little in two mile maidens at the backend of last season and regressed from his debut on his second start. Back from a break here and best watched even in this company.
Ran two sound races at Leopardstown and Dundalk last year over 7f and 6f respectively. Probably should have won on the latter occasion after being hampered in the closing stages and just failing to get up. One run over the winter for a different yard in Dubai and now returns to his former trainer with his Leopardstown form reading particularly well in the light of what the second has done since.
Form looked gradually progressive last year in three runs with the best coming on his last start at Kempton over 7f on the AW (split a pair of subsequent Listed winners). Had run creditably on the turf prior to that and has a leading chance here although the yard hasn't exactly made the fastest start to the turf season.
Has shown some fairly useful form in all his three 6f starts all at Hamilton over 6f in June/July. Not seen since then and back off a long absence but looks as though he'll be suited by 7f and should go on improving for a yard that has made a decent start to the turf Flat season.
Forecasts
War Of Succession (7/4), What's The Story (15/8), Sharp Defence (7/2), Helovaplan (14/1), Manshood (20/1), Chunkyfunkymonkey (28/1), Tambour (40/1)
Probably the race that lacks depth on the card but a solid enough contest in its own way. War Of Succession has shown that he is more than capable of winning a contest like this but the Balding yard have not made the quickest start to the turf season and SHARP DEFENCE is selected against him for a little bit of value. His Leopardstown form reads well in the context of this race and he may just be able to edge out the likely favourite here. What’s The Story is respected and Manshood an interesting runner although it may well be handicaps that see him in a better light.
