Four-time Flat winner with the last two coming in handicap company on the AW in small fields over a mile. Looked to get the run of the race last time out and unlikely to get a soft lead this time around.
Only win so far has come in a Lingfield 6f maiden as a juvenile but has run some creditable races in better company since then without winning. This year's form looks a little below his two-year-old form and now in a handicap for the first time off a tough mark over a new trip.
Yard are well represented in this race and this one tries a mile for the first time having won twice over 6f last year. Pedigree suggests he may stay a mile but his mark looks relatively tough.
From a yard that do well with this type and although he only won 7f Brighton maiden as a juvenile there were several other good efforts on his CV. Very much looks the sort who could move forward as a three-year-old although the wide draw makes life a little tricky.
Only win came at long odds-on in a weak Newcastle maiden over 6f but that came after an excellent run in a big Redcar Sales race over the same trip. Has been gelded over the winter and has a pedigree that says he'll stay this far and on his handicap debut looks of interest.
Won two of his three races last year both over shorter trips than this and shaped well on his initial outing this year at Newcastle. Ran a poor race last time out after being off eight weeks over 7f at Lingfield in a Listed contest and a wide draw and a new trip make life tough here.
Winner on her racecourse debut over 5f at Kempton as a juvenile but has struggled since in four starts. Raced very freely last time out and shown very little sign of staying this mile trip even from a good draw.
Finished last year well rattling off a hat-trick in nursery company all over a mile on the AW and turf. Now off a 6lb higher mark than the last of his wins but does look open to further improvement coming back from a break.
Won his second race of his career on heavy going over 5f at Redcar but rather disappointed after that over longer trips. Yard have made a good start to the season but the increased trip raises doubts about this one.
Yard are well represented in this (one of four runners for them here) and on a couple of his runs last year this doesn't look totally beyond him. His second over a mile in October showed that he could be successful off marks such as this and he's respected here.
Drawn here in stall 1 for a runner who has liked to go forward in the past although he has yet to win a race. Has looked a better horse on the AW though from limited evidence and makes his handicap debut back on turf in a tough heat.
Still to win a race from five attempts and had started to look a little awkward especially as he ran rather freely on most occasions. Has been gelded since his last run and may well improve a little but has finished weakly in the past and no easy task from a wide berth now.
Forecasts
Novoman (9/2), Rashford's Double (6/1), Mazyoun (13/2), Society Red (7/1), Rusumaat (8/1), Mailshot (8/1), Dr Julius No (9/1), Somnambulist (14/1), Cullingworth (16/1), Navarone (20/1), Grey Britain (22/1), Chupalla (25/1)
Three-year-old handicaps are always a challenging puzzle at this time of the year and this one is no exception. Novoman will be among the leading contenders but a wide draw does temper enthusiasm> Richard Fahey has wheeled out four runners in this and the best of those would look to be the progressive Rashford’s Double who despite the rise in the weights comes here looking for a four-timer. Mark Johnston is another trainer who is multiply represented although all of his trio headed by Mailshot look to have tough tasks at the weights. Overall though MAZYOUN who is Hugo Palmer’s first Musselburgh runner looks to be the one who could be the pick of the weights especially on his third in a valuable Redcar sales race.
- Mazyoun
- Rashford's Double
- Novoman
