Regularly placed in AW maidens this winter and has taken his races well. However, he ducked a golden winning opportunity here in February (2/9f) in a muddling race, and he's likely to find one or two too good again.
No showing in rear on both starts as a juvenile on turf in August 2016. Makes his AW debut and seasonal return but unlikely to fare any better.
Half-brother to a couple of winners including Asifa who won an AW race. Dam won in the USA and was third in the Prix Saint-Alary. Finished down the field in a 7F course maiden on debut after taking a keen hold, and again refused to settle when third of four at Wolverhampton latest. Dropped 2F in trip as connections try to channel that keenness with speed.
€50,000 yearling whose dam was a US maiden. By Elusive Quality, this three-year-old makes his racecourse debut for a trainer amongst the winners lately.
Green but showed distinct promise when finishing just under 3L third to Angel Meadow on debut at York in June 2016. Bombed out badly after dwelling when a heavily eased last of eleven back on the Knavesmire the following month and absent since. Market could be informative for his AW bow now gelded.
Gelded between his two starts as a juvenile, but that appeared to bring about little in the way of improvement, so best watched on his seasonal and AW bow.
Made a pleasing start to his career when a ½L runner up to Rock Of America (pair clear) in a C&D maiden early last month. Whilst that rival has been beaten since, this horse is entitled to have learned plenty and a reproduction of that form will make him tough to beat.
£29,000 yearling who has been absent since finishing seventh of 12 over 6F on debut at Leicester in May 2016. Interesting to see how she fares after 11 months off on her AW debut, but hails from a yard to respect.
Expensive yearling, and owned by regular Newcastle sponsor John Dance. Beaten 1L on debut by Merry Banter at Catterick in May 2016 (5F) but tied up inside the final furlong after faltering at Ripon (5F) just under a fortnight later. Absent since, but no surprise if she runs a big race today.
Improved from first start to second, and appeared suited by dropping back to this trip when 1L second to Desert Sport over C&D in early November. Returns for her third start at this track with minimal improvement required to play a hand.
Forecasts
Poet's Reward (1/1), Eltanin (6/1), Marseille (7/1), Flawlessly (7/1), Alfonso Manana (10/1), Angel's Acclaim (14/1), Barwell (20/1), Archi's Affaire (25/1), Definitely Maybe (25/1), Pavers Pride (80/1)
Not a particularly strong maiden with which to conclude the card, but a number of these horses look capable of improvement, most notably Eltanin (gelded) and the expensively purchased filly Flawlessly. However, whilst Marseille boasts solid enough C&D form, the horse that the others all have to beat is POET'S REWARD, with a reproduction of last month's debut effort behind Rock Of America more than good enough to land this prize.
- Poet's Reward
- Eltanin
- Flawlessly
