Won his share in point-to-points and also landed two hunter chases on heavy ground last spring. Decent effort to chase home Darwins Fox at Leicester (2m, soft) last month and respected in this company.
A bumper, point-to-point, hurdle and chase winner over the years. Won a similar event to this in good style at Wincanton (good to firm) last spring and is fit from point-to-pointing. Warrants a second look.
Point-to-point winner who surprisingly won a hunter chase at Stratford 11 months ago. Best effort since when narrowly touched off in a point-to-point earlier this month but no margin for error in this company.
Useful enough for Martin Keighley once upon a time but it's almost five years since he last got his head in front. Soundly beaten in both hunter chases this year before a modest effort in a point-to-point last month.
Popped up with three chase wins (all over further) early in his career but a very limited performer these days, more often than not failing to complete in point-to-points. Hard to build a serious case for.
Once a prolific winner in point-to-points and has shown up well in defeat on occasions over regulation fences, including when third at Newton Abbot last spring. Hasn't quite raced with enough zest in recent point-to-points to instil confidence.
Once had a rating in the mid 140's but hasn't won since 2014. That said, he hasn't been beaten far in three recent handicaps over 2m and, providing he gets his jumping right, he could easily pop up in this company.
High-class performer for Tom Gerorge at one point, even running at the 2013 Cheltenham Festival, before losing his way. Pulled up in a point-to-point on his return from a long absence and was already beaten when unseating at Leicester next time.
Was winning novice hurdles for Donald McCain five years ago but has regressed markedly since and, though he has popped up in a couple of point-to-points, he struggled in a recent hunter chase won by Double Bank at Wincanton. More needed.
Twice a winner in point-to-points and also won a novice hunter chase at Newton Abbot (2m5f, good) two years ago. Only moderate form in a handful of point-to-points since, however, and hasn't been sighted for 11 months.
Forecasts
Lord Ben (11/10), Delta Borget (9/2), Mr Satco (5/1), Our Chief (17/2), Little Cornham (9/1), Dancing Olga (16/1), Court In Session (28/1), Rody (33/1), Total Rebellion (66/1), Doubletoilntrouble (80/1)
Lord Ben isn't the force of old but retains enough ability to win in this grade if his jumping holds up...but it is an 'iff'. On that basis preference is for MR SATCO who came good around this time last year to win a similar event at Wincanton on decent ground. Delta Borget has been performing with credit recently and is another with obvious claims in a race lacking quality in depth.
- Mr Satco
- Delta Borget
- Lord Ben
