Carries the highest official rating in this but that might overestimate him. Won his bumper at Catterick in good style but has not jumped well in his three starts over hurdles. Flattered by his proximity to the winner last time and, with some of the yard's horses disappointing recently, he may not be one to take short odds about.

Showed some ability in point-to-points but little evidence of that over hurdles this year. Faces a stiff task on these terms.
£32,000 buy who shaped better than his finishing position on his first start in a Uttoxeter bumper and jumped poorly on hurdles debut. Appeared to have learned a lot from that when a respectable third at Southwell next time. Stable are in better form now and one to note if supported in the ring.
Has finished last on two AW starts and was pulled up in a poor race at Southwell last time. Makes little appeal in what would appear to be a stronger contest.

Half-brother to Broadway Buffalo and three other winners. That pedigree indicates this trip will be more to his liking after showing promise over shorter. Best bumper form came on good ground around here and top jockey retains the ride.

Beat a subsequent winner in a bumper last November. Third on hurdling debut and that form has been boosted since. Made untimely errors at Southwell last time and the winner ran well in a top class mares handicap at Newbury next time. Must have an excellent chance of going one better.

Forecasts

Royal Village (5/4), Boagrius (7/4), Mister Whitaker (5/1), Cake de L'Isle (7/1), King Julien (20/1), Tropical Sunshine (66/1), Brown Paddy (100/1), Great Roar (125/1)

Verdict

This a decent maiden hurdle for this stage of the season and there are a few potential traps laid for punters. Boagrius catches the eye on his bumper form and three placed efforts over hurdles. His jumping has not been fluent and he can ill afford mistakes against some promising rivals. Mister Whitaker is expected to improve for this trip on better ground and Cake De L'Isle gave the impression last time that he was quickly learning the game. ROYAL VILLAGE made a couple of crucial errors last time but had jumped better on faster ground on his previous start. With ground conditions looking perfect for him, and the form of his two races over hurdles looking a lot better now, he can land this for his in form stable.
  1. Royal Village
  2. Mister Whitaker
  3. Boagrius
