Reverting to fences is in his favour and tries blinkers for the first time in a bid to recapture some of his old sparkle; but has yet to be convincing for his new yard. Eased in grade but is still one to be wary of just for the time being.

Last won off a mark of 125 but that back in 2013 and his decline has been steady since then. The rider's 7lb claim helps with a stiff burden on these terms but he lacks the consistency to be given a solid recommendation.

Out of form for quite some time (even a spell out point-to-pointing failed to revive his fortunes). Failed to complete a couple of time recently and is running out of options. Hard to fancy.

Reached the lofty heights of 132 over hurdles, so has a live chance now downgraded to a seller if he can match anywhere near that level. Does need to improve on his two previous attempts over fences but this is easier and first-time cheekpieces may help.

Has experience of the hurdles course at Ffos Las and couldn't have been found a weaker opening in which to make his debut over fences. May be worth a speculative punt in a weak race such as this.

Verdict

A bit of minefield as they all have something to prove for one reason or another. So siding with HORSEGUARDSPARADE does have cautionary note attached. However, assuming he adapts to the rigours of chains, he can take advantage of the fact that he receives weight from bar one of his rivals and won't need to be anything out of the ordinary to score on these terms. Paul Nicholls rarely preservers with selling grade chasers, so is noteworthy that Earthmoves is tried in headgear for the first time. He was easily the best of these over hurdles and will be hard to master if he raises his game against this calibre of opponent. Similar comments would apply to The Mumper if the best of his form is taken into account. However, he has been very modest for his current yard and needs everything to go his way if he going to stop the rot.
  1. Horseguardsparade
  2. Earthmoves
  3. The Mumper
