Slowly getting the hang of things and steps into handicap company off a reasonable mark. Has scope to improve (related to winners over 1m+) and one to consider at this level.

Well beaten on her handicap debut at Kempton when last seen out and already looks to be of very ordinary ability. Improvement needed to figure prominently this time around.

Comes a long way for this but needs to improve greatly for today's step up in trip. Not hard to oppose on last season's form, though.

Her dam won over 1m, so feasible that she may still need more time. Already has a bit to find with Toolatetodelegate but may get closer on 3lb better terms. Risky option on balance but one to bear in mind for a place if backed accordingly in a weak race.

Lacked the pace to stay with the pack over 7f last time out, so stepping back to a mile will help. Good chance on a literal reading of her previous Chelmsford second, but has a 3lb higher mark to contend with, so needs to be at her best.

Gelded at the end of last year and notable that he was supported on his reappearance at Newcastle. Needs to crank things up a few notches but pedigree suggests he'll be suited by the step up in trip. One of the more interesting contenders.

Age: 3|  Weight: 9-4| J: Dane O'Neill| T: C Gordon| OR:  52

Failed to get competitive in three previous visits to this course and, having been off since October, she looks opposable for the time being.

Comes here on the back of two poor efforts at Southwell and hard to recommend on a literal reading of the form already in the book. Yet to start at an SP below 66/1 says plenty about the expectations previously held of her. Paired with a 7lb claimer but still makes limited appeal on these terms.

Age: 3|  Weight: 9-3| J: Paddy Bradley(5)| T: P Phelan| OR:  51

A half-sister to a couple of modest winning sprinters, she was well held over C&D when last seen out and is probably best watched again this time around.

Shown little in three starts in Ireland but has to be interesting that he comes such a long way to make his handicap debut. His yard has a healthy strike-rate on the AW, so has to be worth a look in the betting despite being a long-time absentee from the action.

Fared well in minor handicap company and posted a sound effort in defeat over C&D last time out. Has a race of this nature within her at some point, so merits plenty of respect on these terms.

Age: 3|  Weight: 8-12| J: Josephine Gordon| T: J Ryan| OR:  45

Still a maiden after eight starts and has dropped 11lb since making her handicap debut; very hard to fancy on that evidence. She is a half-sister to a useful miler but needs to improve out of all recognition if she is going to trouble the judge here.

Forecasts

Les Arceaux (6/4), Whatalove (4/1), How's Lucy (11/2), Rey Loopy (9/1), Fleeting Francesca (16/1), Epsom Secret (16/1), Noreena (16/1), Toolatetodelegate (20/1), Swan Serenade (25/1), Zipedee (25/1), A Bit Of Ginger (33/1), Melo Magic (66/1)

Verdict

A few of these are open to improvement over the trip, so the betting will be informative. The likes of Toolatetodelegate and Rey Loopy appeal as likely contenders at this level and should be monitored closely. However, WHATALOVE has the edge in terms of experience of this C&D and just edges the narrowest of verdicts. Market confidence behind Irish raider Les Arceaux would also be dangerous to ignore, though. Similar comments apply to Noreena, who has a feasible chance of reversing recent form with Toolatetodelegate, so shouldn't be dismissed out of hand.
  1. Whatalove
  2. Toolatetodelegate
  3. Rey Loopy
