Glimpses of promise in Irish bumpers last year but pulled up on his debut for this yard over hurdles at Newbury in January and again toiled badly at Sandown next time. Hard to enthuse over right now.

Better than form figures indicate, running a good race to chase home Burbank at Huntingdon (2m, good to soft) in January, beating home a couple of subsequent winners in the process. Didn't jump well on soft ground last time but respected here.

10/1
Fair form in bumpers without looking like winning but things haven't really happened for him in three starts over hurdles thus far, readily outpaced in a hot little race at Newbury latest won by Reigning Supreme. More needed as he drops in trip.

Moderate on the Flat for William Muir but better signs in two runs over hurdles so far, both on heavy ground at Plumpton. Faced with a very different test here, so interesting to see how he fares. Not ruled out.

A moderate maiden on the Flat but belied a big price-tag on his hurdling debut at Huntingdon (2m, good to soft) to finish a runner-up behind So Celebre. Took a keen hold that day, so potential improvement waiting to be unlocked. Respected.

Juste Pour Nousb,t31
Age: 4|  Weight: 10-7| J: T Scudamore| T: D Pipe
33/1
Won twice for Mark Johnston on the Flat, most recently in Lingfield seller in December. Shaped ok on debut for new yard last month and he is one to note in the market as he makes a hurdling bow with blinkers back on.

125/1
Unfancied and well beaten in one run on the Flat for Simon Dow and it was a similar story on his hurdling debut for new connections at Fontwell on Boxing Day. Hard to build a case for right now.
Ex-Aidan O'Brien inmate who showed promise when third on his hurdling debut at Punchestown (soft) but slightly disappointing on easy ground at Ludlow when making a debut for current yard. No surprise to a much better effort here.

A winner on the Flat for Sir Mark Prescott but very disappointing in two runs over hurdles so far for present connections, beaten over 40L at Taunton (2m, good) latest. A hood is now reached for.

Horse silk

Showed signs of greenness when racing very wide on his debut in a Lingfield bumper back in December, finishing 10th of 14 behind Blazon. Hurdling debut today, probably best watched.

Miss Joans17
Age: 4|  Weight: 10-0| J: James Best| T: P Phelan
200/1
Jumped sloppily when pulled up on her first two attempts over hurdles but signs of improvement on better ground over C&D last month, though still 26L adrift of Excellent Result. Others preferred.

Horse silk
200/1
Dual Flat winner for James Tate last year before losing her way and she has shown little sign of a revival for a new yard. Finished just behind Miss Joans in the race won Excellent Result over C&D last month on her hurdling bow.

Forecasts

Man From Mars (1/1), Burning Heat (9/2), New Millennium (5/1), Argyle (9/1), The Poodle Faker (10/1), Status Quo (20/1), Juste Pour Nous (33/1), Celma Des Bois (100/1), Windspiel (100/1), Masked Bandit (125/1), Miss Joans (200/1), Pivotal Flame (200/1)

Verdict

MAN FROM MARS probably didn't do himself justice when pitched into a Grade 3 event at Sandown last time but he had shown enough when chasing home Burbank over this trip at Huntingdon previously to suggest that winning an ordinary novice event was within his capabilities. Burning Heat showed more than enough on his hurdles bow to suggest he can be competitive, whilst there should be more to come New Millennium. A positive market move for hurdling debutant Juste Pour Nous would also be interesting.
  1. Man From Mars
  2. Burning Heat
  3. Juste Pour Nous
