Teddy Tee388
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-12| J: R D Day(3)| T: N G Richards| OR:  116
9/1
Ayr regular, whose sole career success came at that track in a 3m handicap hurdle in January 2015. However, was regularly placed (despite some less fluent hurdling) during the remainder of that campaign. No so effective in three runs this term, but his mark is easing, with this grade (Class 4) much more his level.

Age: 8|  Weight: 11-6| J: P J Brennan| T: I A Duncan| OR:  110
5/2
3m Ayr winner in November 2016, and despite a string of placed efforts thereafter was able to readily defy a 10lb higher mark against rivals of her own sex in a 2m5½f handicap at Ayr last month. Back up in trip (stays), but raised a further 8lb, and tackles geldings today away from Ayr, which is the scene of her four career successes to date.

11/1
Veteran who seems well suited by Hexham, and ran out a game winner of a 2m7½f handicap hurdle there last month. Raised 5lb, but owned by the Kelso Lowflyers, and did also win by 9L over this C&D in January, so likely to be thereabouts under his regular rider.

8/1
Fair to say he's proved disappointing since winning a 3m handicap hurdle by 6L at Ayr in February 2016 (Lochnell who received 8lb was 21L back in third). Not suited by fencing despite winning two Point-to-Points as a youngster, his mark is plummeting (now just 2lb higher than that Ayr success), and he could be a fresh horse after a three month break.

Age: 9|  Weight: 10-13| J: Callum Bewley(3)| T: S Waugh| OR:  103
2/1
Three time course winner over hurdles and fences (including in the same December handicap chase in 2015 and 2016), so is clearly well suited by this track. Runner up over hurdles on her penultimate start (1lb higher today), and third over fences at Catterick when last seen in action eight weeks ago. Contender.

Age: 11|  Weight: 10-0| J: Blair Campbell(7)| T: N W Alexander| OR:  90
5/1
Stablemate of Bertalus who hasn't won since October 2015, but is undeniably well treated on the basis of that course success (2m6f). Placed from this mark on his latest two runs (well beaten once), and receives weight all round from his rivals.

Forecasts

Total Assets (2/1), Lochnell (5/2), Andhaar (5/1), Bertalus (8/1), Teddy Tee (9/1), Bescot Springs (11/1)

Verdict

A tricky contest despite the small field. Teddy Tee drops in grade which is helpful, and this could well see him return to form. Total Assets thrives at this track, and is a leading contender, whilst both Lochnell and Bescot Springs are last time out winners and clearly in good form despite their clear preferences for Ayr, and their advancing years respectively. However, aged just eight BERTALUS has time on his side, and with an increasingly fair looking mark, he could spring a surprise if returning a fresh horse from a three month break.
  1. Bertalus
  2. Bescot Springs
  3. Total Assets
