Very tame debut on first appearance at this course back in October. A huge step forward would be required here.

Well beaten on two starts on the all-weather at Dundalk so far over a furlong shorter, but perhaps he'll find 1m, as well as the switch to turf, more to his liking, though others look more likely winners.

Bought for 2,500gns in October. Mostly a dirt based pedigree but his sire's progeny have also shown they can go on turf. Will probably need the run but worth checking in the market.
Put in two fair performances over the winter on the all-weather at Dundalk, first over 7f before finding 1m more to his liking. Today's trip should suit him well then, and he should put that previous racecourse experience to good use.

Fair fifth on debut at The Curragh in August (1m, good to firm). Has to prove he can handle the forecast testing conditions but there was a lot to like about that debut and he should be able to take a step up here.

Ran well on debut at Leopardstown last June in what was a promising performance, and on that basis looks to be the one to beat here. The first time hood should help him settle on only his second racecourse appearance.

Wasn't particularly impressive on racecourse debut at Gowran Park last June, but he should learn from that experience and be able to put in a better performance here.

Half brother to two winners, both over similar trips to this, but failed to meet his reserve at auction. Not the most exciting pedigree but at least should be starting off in a race that could suit him, and he's worth a check in the market.

Forecasts

Venezuela (6/5), Shamad (13/8), Vocal Response (7/1), Pecheurs De Perles (10/1), Wee Jock (14/1), Maximus Daia (25/1), For Three (33/1), Kingwilliamstown (66/1), Mujaafy (100/1)

Verdict

After a good debut at Leopardstown last year, VENEZUELA should be able to build on that first run and find the required improvement to get off the mark here. His connections obviously speak for themselves in terms of quality and he's given a hood to assist, which should help. He can get the better of Shamad, who ran a fair race on debut at The Curragh last year, and Pecheurs Du Perles, who should go close if successfully making the change to turf from Dundalk's Polytrack.
