Winner at the third time of asking at Carlisle, showing a good attitude to fend off Point Of Principle, but seemed to enjoy the uphill finish there and this is a different kettle of fish entirely. Has the penalty to carry as well and will need to improve again.
Yard do get the odd bumper winner (about a 12% strike rate last five seasons) and this one is related to winners (all of whom needed further) but the application of a hood on his debut sounds a warning note.

Not a bad debut at Lingfield but that wasn't much of a race, and he looked to need further than two miles in any case. Should improve but yard don't have a great record in bumpers (just 6-66 last five seasons) and more likely winners.

Has performed with credit on both starts so far, and may well come on a bit for his recent run at Huntingdon (first run for three months) when third to Maria's Benefit, beaten a length. Bred to be decent and with yard firing again after a poor spell (by their own high standards) has to be high in the shortlist.

Winner of three of his four point-to-points and has created a favourable impression in two bumpers, finishing placed twice and giving the impression this speed test might suit him a bit better. Ground no issue, yard do well in these events and another to give serious consideration to.

Half-brother to the useful Black Hercules and first runner on these shores for his Irish trainer, both of which make him of interest, as does the jockey booking. Will want further in time but would have to be taken seriously if the market speaks in his favour.

Missed an engagement at Warwick in the week due to the ground turning soft, so conditions here expected to be more his thing, but there's no stars in the pedigree and may well need time. Best watched on debut.
Bred to have a bit more speed than a few of these, and yard (who do well in these events) had a bumper winner in the week. Another that requires a market check in what could be an informative little race.

Forecasts

Talkischeap (5/2), Tourboy (7/2), Arakhan (4/1), Solomon Grey (9/2), Pyrios (8/1), Mahlermade (14/1), Gunfleet (16/1), Sand Strip (33/1), Cobalt Marthen (33/1)

Verdict

In what could be quite an interesting and close race, TALKISCHEAP is just given the vote now he gets decent ground to operate on. He isn;t short of speed for a winning pointer and can put his experience to good use around this tight track. Tourboy, Solomon Grey and Pyrios are all worthy of attention, with Irish raider Tourboy even more so if the money came for him. Arakhan has plenty on under the penalty.
  1. Talkischeap
  2. Tourboy
  3. Solomon Grey
