Very in-and-out but capable on his day, as he showed when gamely winning at Ffos Las in November but a tale of woe since, and showed little on his most recent start, never really getting into the race at Wincanton. Only 2lb higher than his win, so feasibly handicapped, but plenty to prove now.

Came good at Ludlow in early March when a ready winner of a similar grade handicap to today's, but a bitter disappointment a week later at Sandown under a penalty, looking beaten a long way out. Possible that came too soon, but does need to bounce back from that under new higher mark.

Starting to look disappointing now, and well beaten at Taunton on latest start when conditions suited and he should have done better. Dropped in the weights again and a change of headgear today, but it's all looking a bit much for him at present, and can only be watched.

Fascinating contender, as it's a year to the day he won his only hurdles start for this yard, taking care of two better fancied rivals at Wetherby (form has worked out) but not seen since. Was useful on the flat for Mick Appleby before that and may well be one of the yard's hopes for the bigger summer handicaps this season.

Usually gives it a good go from the front but looked to be feeling the effects of the winter when last seen, finishing well beaten at Taunton. Handicapper dropping her back to a winning mark but others come here fresher and she needs to bounce back to her best.

Better effort when second at Fakenham last time, and hadn't run badly at Taunton the time before. Came good in the spring last year and it may be he needs the sun on hs back to show his best. Well weighted to go close and is coming back to form, so has to be shortlisted.

Made favorite for three of his four starts so far but won one the one occasion he wasn't, taking a Taunton maiden hurdle (form has worked out well). Disappointed again when tailed off at Doncaster latest but gets a first-time hood here and it's far too soon to be writing him off yet.

Forecasts

Asum (2/1), Star Foot (11/4), Bobble Emerald (13/2), Sioux Chieftain (7/1), Centurius (9/1), Sirop De Menthe (10/1), St Saviour (14/1)

Verdict

This isn't easy, as most have a question of some sort or other to answer. In the case of SIOUX CHIEFTAIN it's the fact he's been off a year, but this is the time of year Dr Newland starts to wheel his bigger summer jump guns out and it may be that he's up to the task despite the absence. Asum may well run better now given some headgear and remains unexposed. Star Foot is coming back to form and can take home a share of the prizes.
  1. Sioux Chieftain
  2. Asum
  3. Star Foot
