Very effective over a straight mile and conditions won't be a problem but he's shaped as if amiss on two of his last three starts and he's an unreliable type so hard to fancy back on the round course.

Disappointed as a short-priced favourite in two starts last year and this doesn't look like an easy test for a comeback run. No doubt he has abilty but probably best watched on this occasion and appears to be the yard second string on jockey bookings.

Went close in two Black Type races in France at the end of last year and while he's won his three starts over 7f and none of the mile, he still looks suited by the extra furlong. Any rain will aid his chance and should go well on his return.

Proved a shade disappointing last year, failing to get his head in front, and finished a well beaten third in last year's renewal of this race. Very capable on his day and looks likely he will try and make all but there's plenty of pace in this and he may be on the decline, so probably one to take on.

Winner of a valuable handicap over in Meydan in February and one would imagine there will be more to come this year but no doubt his best performances have come on fast ground and the weather forecast would have to be a concern for his supporters. Godolphin won this last year and also run Toscanini in the race.

Good servant for this yard down the years, particularly with his exploits in Meydan a couple of seasons ago but not looked in that kind of form this season and he's another with reservations regarding the ground. Quite possibly better over 7f and others preferred.

Bit of a superstar as a two-year-old, winning a pair of Group 2 races with a likable attitude. Can be effective on rain softened ground and has gone well fresh before. Promising run when last seen at Newmarket in the autumn and he will be difficult to pass if he's anywhere near back to his best with one of the world's most talented in the saddle.

Repsectable run on Champions Day when 6th behind Minding and finished an excellent second behind Zelzal in another Group 1 earlier in the season. Goes well in soft ground and won a Group 3 on the straight mile at Newmarket. Will be hard to beat if ready to go after a break but trainer's horses do often come on for their reappearance.

Reportedly switched to this stable to be a pacemaker for Ribchester in his Lockinge bid. This could well be a dress rehearsal for that assignment as stablemate Cymric will want a good pace to aim at and he's unlikely to have the stamina for this test; hard to fancy with those factors in mind.

Won this two years ago but he's an inconsistent type and best efforts tend to come in small fields. Has gone well fresh on several occasions in his career but hard to imagine he's as good as he once was and this looks like a strong race for a Listed contest.

Won on the AW in France when last seen at the end of November and has two wins to her name on the straight mile at Ascot. Likely to want plenty of rain to come but trainer won this last year and while she has the lowest official rating, she has plenty of scope for improvement and could go well for a jockey who rides this course well.

Forecasts

Crazy Horse (3/1), Stormy Antarctic (10/3), Kool Kompany (7/1), Cymric (7/1), Dawn Of Hope (10/1), Toscanini (12/1), Tullius (12/1), Castle Harbour (12/1), Custom Cut (14/1), Big Baz (33/1), Dark Emerald (50/1)

Verdict

STORMY ANTARCTIC is probably a class above his rivals and in this contest and he chooses to run here, instead of a Black Type event in France. Provided he's ready to go first time, he could be very tough to beat and he reportedly went well in a recent piece of work at Kempton. If he isn't race fit, Kool Kompany will be hard to run down on the front end and the booking of Ryan Moore bodes well for his chances. Dawn Of Hope has a bit to find on official ratings but she has looked very impressive on rain softened ground and looks capable of progressing further this season. Frankie Dettori had the option of a couple in here and plumped for Crazy Horse who should go well and he's another who would like some rain.
  1. Stormy Antarctic
  2. Kool Kompany
  3. Dawn Of Hope
