Pulled out some career best performances last year and has been a revelation since dropping back to 6f. Struggled on his last couple of starts in the autumn but may have been over the top by then. Could get an easy lead here and has winning form over C&D so plenty to like even with top weight.

Solid performances in weaker races in France and Germany at the end of the last Turf season but very disappointing on his comeback run at Wolverhampton and he has plenty on at these weights. First-time tongue tie needs to bring about plenty of improvement.

Not at his best last year and disappointed when well backed on a couple of occasions, once over C&D. Goes on any ground and jockey rides this course well but needs to bounce back and prove he's the force of old if he's to get his head in front in what looks like a competitive race.

Won over this trip as a two-year-old and interesting he drops back after a campaign at 7f last time around. Doesn't look like the easiest ride and possible this is just a starting point, with bigger targets down the line being the long-term goal, so may be best watched on this occasion.

Very disappointing on his last couple of starts barely beating a rival home but in good form the time before at this course over an extended 5f. Would need a career best to win this though and looks more effective on faster ground.

Very disappointing in two end of season races when last seen but had been on the go for the majority of the season by that point. Won this race last year and then went on to win a Group 2 at the Curragh later in the season. Can get a little outpaced from the gate, but every chance that if the ground is slow enough, he'll be able to hang on to their coattails and a reproduction of last years performance would probably be good enough to take this.

All eight of his wins have come at Ripon or Beverley but finished a good fourth of 20 on debut for this yard at York at the end of last season. However, Listed company looks like a step too far and would probably prefer quicker ground than he'll get here.

Ran well in a valuable Meydan handicap at the start of the year but uninspiring on the AW since and not won wince 2015. Listed company likely to be beyond him (finished unplaced on two previous efforts) and others preferred.

Group 3 winner in France but finished last on first start for this yard last month at Lingfield and first-time hood already being reached for at this early stage is a little off-putting. Jockey does ride this course well and trainer does well with his new recruits so not dismissed out of hand.

Heavy ground winner at Hamilton at the end of last season but proved a little disappointing in Meydan this year. Return to slower ground ought to help and has won at this course as a juvenile. Will need a career best to take this affair but with the trainer holding a good strike-rate of 19.1% when teaming up with this jockey and the yard winning this last year, he's not without a hope.

Not won since 2015 and prefers faster ground than what he'll get here. Did run his best race for some time out in Meydan last time and it's an eye-catching jockey booking but his overall profile is patchy and others hold stronger claims.

Well held on both starts last year and draw doesn't look ideal but she did win a Group 3 at Newmarket as a juvenile so she clearly has ability. Well-being to prove and has a larger absence than any of her rivals to overcome so probably best watched on return.

Won her first two starts but been frustrating to follow since and well beaten on her last two outings. Has race fitness on her side but looks up against it.

Forecasts

Birchwood (9/2), Mobsta (6/1), Tupi (7/1), Absolutely So (7/1), Blue Bayou (8/1), Captain Colby (11/1), Nameitwhatyoulike (11/1), Ride Like The Wind (11/1), Scrutineer (14/1), Rene Mathis (16/1), Buying Trouble (20/1), Swift Approval (25/1), Pipers Note (33/1)

Verdict

It would be no surprise to see MOBSTA win back-to-back renewals of this race provided the rain that's forecast arrives. He was a little disappointing in some end of season races but his yard are in good form and a repeat of his effort last year may be good enough to take this. Nameitwhatyoulike is a course and distance winner and he may get an uncontested lead; his rivals wouldn't want to give him too much rope on the front end. Scrutineer needs to step up on the bare level of his form but he has won here and could give his stablemate something to think about.
  1. Mobsta

  3. Scrutineer
