2lb higher than when winning for the second time in a week last spring, though pretty badly out of sorts since then over both fences and hurdles. Yard not red hot, but he has at least been freshened up, so a market check is advised.

Has been a fabulous. consistent servant to connections, winning 10 times from 2m up to 2m2½f on ground from good through to soft. Powers gradually on the wane, though is capable of being competitive from this sort of mark, which is 2lb higher than his last win. Well beaten from 1lb higher last time.

Only won three of his first 54 starts but has obliged twice recently, albeit in selling company. Well beaten last time under a penalty and now switches back to chasing from 1lb higher than his last hurdles win, although this has never really looked to be his forte.

Had dropped to a mark of 87 when obliging at Market Rasen earlier in the month and was still going well, albeit it too far out to be dogmatic about where he would have finished, when attempting to follow-up under a penalty at Newcastle. Should be thereabouts with a clear round.

Ran up a hat-trick this time last year, the last of those wins being from 12lb higher than today's mark and has run two decent races in defeat in recent weeks. No reason why he can't have a say again.

Forecasts

Akula (5/2), Roxyfet (11/4), Gin Cobbler (10/3), Chestnut Ben (5/1), Ever So Much (13/2)

Verdict

A quartet of thoroughly exposed chasers plus Ever So Much, who is arguably unexposed but lacks any sort of recent form. There will be those who want to take a chance on him and a market check is advised, though the suggestion is to give another chance to GIN COBBLER, who was still going well when falling in the race in which Roxyfet finished third at Newcastle last time.
  1. Gin Cobbler
  2. Roxyfet
  3. Ever So Much
