Fresh By Nature23
Age: 10|  Weight: 11-12| J: Jonathan England| T: H Bethell| OR:  100
12/1
3lb lower than when winning over C&D last April. Well beaten in all four starts since then, but should be capable of making a better showing again now. Seems to handle any ground.
2
Horse silk
Darsi Dancer13
Age: 9|  Weight: 11-6| J: Sam Coltherd(5)| T: W Coltherd| OR:  94
4/1
2lb higher than when scoring over C&D a couple of years ago and only subsequent success came in a Hexham seller. Not far away back at that venue recently and should be involved.
3
Horse silk
Snapping Turtle21
Age: 12|  Weight: 11-5| J: Callum Whillans(3)| T: D W Whillans| OR:  93
12/1
Back on his last winning mark today and another who has won over C&D in the past. Not easy to win with but capable of producing a good run when weighted to his ability as is the case today. Goes on a sound surface.
4
Horse silk
Touch Of Steel68
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-5| J: Lucy Alexander| T: J Ewart| OR:  93
11/1
Still 4lb higher than when winning a Catterick handicap hurdle (3m1½f, good to soft) in January and well beaten from this mark next time at Musselburgh. Yard in good form of late and this gelding appreciates good ground so looks set to go close.
5
Horse silk
Onwiththepartyp37
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-4| J: Colm McCormack(3)| T: Kenneth Slack| OR:  92
5/1
Sole success came in a Sligo bumper in 2013 and neither Paul Nicholls, Chris Gordon or current trainer has managed to eek another one out of him. Beaten just 1L from 1lb lower at Newcastle in November, so not without each way claims.
6
Horse silk
Robins Legendv21
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-1| J: B S Hughes| T: C Grant| OR:  89
9/1
Same mark here as for all three previous handicap runs. Looked to be going the right way before his latest effort at Catterick, when pulled up as a 4/1 co-favourite and not beyond the realms of possibility that he may be able to put that behind him here.
7
Horse silk
Down Time8
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-0| J: Danny Cook| T: B Ellison| OR:  88
4/1
Third and beaten 19½L in a Wetherby seller last week and races from same mark of 88 back in a handicap. Just 1-25 career profile over hurdles (two chase wins to his name) makes him hard to fancy, although did go well over C&D from a higher mark last summer.
8
Horse silk
Rockuh13
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-13| J: Mr Ryan Nichol(7)| T: R Ross| OR:  87
33/1
Dipped his toe in to a novices' handicap last time at Hexham and made the frame from 5lb higher, albeit it beaten 43L. Longer trip looks a potential positive and should be able to finish a bit closer this time.
9
Horse silk
Houndscourtt,v51
Age: 10|  Weight: 10-11| J: Henry Brooke| T: Miss J E Foster| OR:  85
5/1
Made all to win at Wetherby (3m, good to soft) in January and ran with plenty of credit from 9lb higher last time over C&D. Same mark as that today, so will find it tough to win from and forecast ground may not play to his strengths.
10
Horse silk
Blue Cove21
Age: 12|  Weight: 10-0| J: Sean Quinlan| T: Miss L C Siddall| OR:  67
40/1
0-34 career record and although he stays well enough and made the frame at Catterick last time out, all of his placed form has been with cut in the ground and he is not difficult to dismiss today.

Forecasts

Down Time (4/1), Darsi Dancer (4/1), Onwiththeparty (5/1), Houndscourt (5/1), Robins Legend (9/1), Touch Of Steel (11/1), Snapping Turtle (12/1), Fresh By Nature (12/1), Rocku (33/1), Blue Cove (40/1)

Verdict

Fresh By Nature may well come back to form given his slight drop in the weights, while Darsi Dancer and Touch Of Steel are others who should be in the shake-up, but preference here is for SNAPPING TURTLE, who acts around here and on decent ground and is back on a fair mark.
  1. Snapping Turtle
  2. Fresh By Nature
  3. Touch Of Steel
