On his fourth trainer within a year, and not progressing. Was found a moderate race at Bangor last year but very disappointing since, showing little on last two starts. Can't be considered until showing some form.

Disappointing on latest start, and hard to find an excuse given neither trip nor ground should have been an issue. Had previously been in good form prior to that and every chance on Punchestown win, but wouldn't want it to dry out too much.

Recent form is poor, and barely went a yard at Warwick last time out but has had heavy ground to contend with on both occasions, which is a possible excuse. Gets a first time hood here and drying ground in his favour and on a winning mark, Risky, but not without some hope.

Not seen since last November and no great record when fresh, so has that against him, plus he's not won a race since 2014. Wasn't disgraced when last seen over fences and hurdles mark much lower, but too much to prove here.

Would pick this lot up and carry them on the best of his form but hasn't shown anything approaching that this winter. Drying ground would help his cause and he may well be a spring horse, so it's a case of watching the market for any clues.

Broke his duck (under all codes) at the 33rd attempt at Downpatrick last August, doing it nicely in the end and similar conditions to contend with here. Not disgraced on recent comeback run at Dundalk but given overall record, more likely winners here.

Won a maiden hurdle at Gowran Park this time last year, but hasn't progressed since then and recent form leaves plenty to be desired. This step up in trip might help (looks one paced) but still doesn't convince as a likely winner.

Only win came at Roscommon last July, and hasn't gone on from that. Trip and heavy ground all proved too much last time, so easily excused that, but still needs to show this trip suits as well as shorter.

Has shown next to nothing in three runs this year, beaten miles all starts and although going handicapping today, difficult to see why he should do any better for it.

No win in 21 starts, the nearest he came recently being when second to the moderate The Absent Mare at Perth last July. Not disgraced on good ground at Downpatrick two starts ago, but can't be backed with any great conviction.

Only glimmers of ability in six starts, flat and jumps, and goes handicapping form a basement mark. Trainer does land the odd gamble and gets winners at Downpatrick, so worth a glance at the market as the tongue tie has been reapplied, and trainer has won this race three times in the past.

Forecasts

Kilcaragh Boy (3/1), Dawerann (11/2), Mountain Kingdom (6/1), Benny In Milan (13/2), Andratx (7/1), Canova (7/1), One Can Cally (8/1), Mister First (12/1), Newsworthy (12/1), Howwoulduno (14/1), Kutitout (33/1)

Verdict

With a bit of sun on his back, it might be worth giving the veteran MISTER FIRST a try in an open race. He tends to save his best for the spring and he’s back on a winning mark. The quicker conditions look ideal and he can cause a minor surprise. Mountain Kingdom, One Can Cally and Benny In Milan all hold some sort of claim but have things to prove. Money for Canova or Andratx would make them interesting.
  1. Mister First
  2. One Can Cally
