C&D winner in September 2016, and improved for his January return to action when third to Slingsby (6F, February) before finishing 1L second to the Robert Cowell trained Just Us Two over 5F here earlier in the month. Tough, versatile prominent racing sprinter with a fair 7lb claimer booked to aid his rising mark.
Career record of 3 from 23 for Martyn Meade and this trainer, with all of his victories coming over this 6F trip. Off since October 2016, and makes his AW debut on his seasonal return.
A six time winner who on balance would appear better suited by turf than the AW. Returns from a short break following a couple of moderate runs in November 2016 having previously been a runner up to Royal Connoisseur at Catterick late October.
Dual winner for Jeremy Noseda in late 2015 whose best run for this trainer in six starts came at Chelmsford in December when beaten 2L by the subsequently progressive Captain Dion. Beaten by a batter fancied stablemate (Florencio) last time at Kempton, and should go well on Newcastle debut.
Dundalk regular for previous trainer Ger Lyons, and not extended to land a 7f maiden there in May 2016. Not easy to assess on his UK debut, having joined these connections for 23,000 gns in October 2016, but should be fine over this stiff 6F trip.
Never reached the leaders when eighth of ten to Handsome Dude over C&D in February. However, was entitled to need that run (first since leaving David Barron in October 2016), so it was disappointing to see him finish last of nine when upped to 7f here next time. Dropped 4lb, and no back number if able to bounce back.
In cracking form during October and November 2016, winning twice on turf over 7F at Redcar (from marks of 63 & 67), before narrowly going under to Manatee Bay over C&D. Probably needed her recent return to the track, but life looks tough for now from this elevated mark.
Likes this track (C&D winner from a 2lb lower mark in February), and has provided this young rider with a number of career successes. However, his latest start wasn't quite so alluring, but impossible to rule out at Newcastle over 6F when breaking on terms.
Forecasts
Enjoy Life (3/1), Parkour (7/2), Aprovado (9/2), Explain (15/2), Money Team (15/2), Strada Di Carsoli (15/2), Burtonwood (10/1), Newstead Abbey (20/1)
Burtonwood likes this track (turf and AW) and generally goes well for Kieran Schofield, but in truth he could do with breaking on terms more regularly. Newstead Abbey could be an interesting contender if his new trainer Michael Herrington can unlock the key to him from a free-falling mark, but this is best left to the Marco Botti trained PARKOUR. Botti saddled a winner here on Wednesday (Unabated), and this four-year-old was beaten by a better fancied stablemate last time at Kempton. He certainly doesn't bump into any rivals with as much talent as Captain Dion tonight, and that single piece of Chelmsford form from December alone suggests he's more than capable of landing a race of this nature.
- Parkour
- Newstead Abbey
- Aprovado
