Likes to force the pace and won four races in 2015. The last of these was a wide margin victory over two moderate rivals. The handicapper punished him harshly and a flattering run at Newbury has not made life any easier. Presence of two other front-runners means he will not get an uncontested lead. Drop in distance is a plus.

Looked an unlucky loser at Cheltenham when tumbling at the third last whilst travelling strongly in front. Unsuited by the course last time but went well on only visit here. Trainer/jockey combination have a good record in chases here (9-43) although current stable form is a concern.

Has been an admirable servant to connections and has picked up six races. All those victories were gained on better ground than is forecast here. May struggle with the pace of this race in these conditions.

Impressive in landing last two races for in form yard. Up another 7lb in the weights and raised in class. Will not get his own way up front, but having won over 2m7f at Exeter last year, he may be able to maintain a decent gallop longer than his rivals.

Forecasts

Speredek (10/11), Red Spinner (13/8), Grey Gold (3/1), Workbench (8/1), De Faoithesdream (8/1)

Verdict

SPEREDEK is clearly on the upgrade and represents a yard that are going well at the moment. His career has seen him exhibit stamina and speed which will be an asset in a race likely to be run at a frantic gallop. That pace will be set by De Faoithesdream who was unlucky not to win at Cheltenham two starts ago. He represents connections that do well here and if the stable were in better form he would have been the selection. Red Spinner has been getting no mercy from the handicapper but may find the drop to 2m working in his favour.
