Looked disappointing when proving a costly failure at Southwell. That run may prove to be better than it looked and the yard were going through a rough patch at the time. Returns to the scene of his sole success for a yard who are 9-42 here with their hurdlers.

Winner of one race from 21 starts on the Flat. Forced a short priced favourite to pull out all the stops at Plumpton on his hurdling debut. That was a good effort as his form on the level would indicate a preference for better ground. Trainer has a career record of just one winner from 35 runners at this course.

Rated several pounds superior to Comanche Chieftain on the Flat. Has shown little in two starts over hurdles and has 70L to find with Shantou Rock on running at Newbury in January.

Showed a fair level of form on the Flat for William Knight. Has shown little aptitude in new career including a feeble effort in a seller last time.

Forecasts

Shantou Rock (2/9), Comanche Chieftain (3/1), Ujagar (50/1), Sky of Stars (66/1)

Verdict

SHANTOU ROCK made all to score here in February having previously chased home the useful Beyond Conceit at Newbury. He has since been beaten at Southwell in a race where he was ridden with more restraint. That was a more slowly run contest and he was made to look one paced in the closing stages. This looks easier and, provided it does not prove to be a tactical affair, Dan Skelton's charge can go one better. Comanche Chieftain is the obvious danger judged on his debut effort at Plumpton on bad ground. There is a small race to be won with him and probably when the ground dries up. Ujagar and Sky of Stars have achieved little so far and the former is expected to pick up third prize.
  1. Shantou Rock
  2. Comanche Chieftain
  3. Ujagar
