Bit below par when last seen at Navan in December over longer trip, though form of that third place finish looks ok. Some smart form last season and no shock if there's more to come.

Jumping not always perfect but only narrowly beaten here over 2m4f (soft to heavy) in November. Drop in trip shouldn't be a major issue if ready to go off a break.

Returned from a long layoff when second on stable debut over longer trip at Leopardstown earlier this month. Obvious claims if none the worse second time out.

Reached a rating of 150 over these obstacles in winning four of 15 previous starts, massive chance on old form but hasn't been spotted since making winning chase bow in May 2015. Trainer in terrific form.

Well below best at Navan on Sunday, dropped 1lb now but makes limited appeal on that showing. Needs to bounce back.

Won at Limerick over Christmas before finding hot Leopardstown handicap too much, since run below best over longer trip back at the venue and others make more appeal in this contest.

Forecasts

Bonbon Au Miel (1/2), Gurteen (10/3), Flaxen Flare (12/1), Oiche Mhaith Boy (12/1), Head Turner (14/1), Lilshane (22/1)

Verdict

Absence rather tempers enthusiasm for FLAXEN FLARE, who would clearly take plenty beating in this field at his best. Given the form of the Elliott team, he may be worth taking the chance however as he made a successful chasing debut off an absence when last seen. Bonbon Au Miel was himself returning from a long break when runner-up at Leopardstown early this month, though that was a very promising start to his career in Ireland and he must be greatly respected. Gurteen has been a shade disappointing in two runs this term but remains a horse to watch while Oiche Mhaith Boy can be competitive if jumping slightly better than last time at this track. Lilshane and Head Turner are both coming here off disappointing runs.
  1. Flaxen Flare
  2. Bonbon Au Miel
  3. Gurteen
