Performance last time was too poor to be true when well beaten joint-favourite at Newton Abbott. Easy winner in selling hurdle company at the same course the time before in what was his first victory since his Flat career several years ago. Well need to move on from last time's disappointment.
0/15 under rules and has seemed regressive for the past year, showing little in any of his races including some easier assignments than this. Looks set to play a minor role once again.
Thrived on the switch to handicap company at Plumpton last time out (2m, good to soft), with that close third being a career best over hurdles by some distance. Remains on the same mark for this and looks to have a live chance.
Has been running well in similar races to this recently, and has always seemed to be at his best in more testing conditions. It has to be a concern that he's without a win since September 2013 though.
C&D winner who has been unlucky recently, including when beaten only half a length at Bangor on heavy ground last April, having also won there shortly prior to that. Almost back down to that winning mark now after some tame performances of late.
Hasn't won over hurdles since November 2013 and only modest form of late in this sphere, but has been given plenty of relief from the handicapper. More will be needed but she could challenge for a place.
Back down to winning mark from Exeter in October (1m7½f, good to firm) and ran with credit when third at Wincanton last time. Somewhat inconsistent but would have a good chance on his best form. His best showings have been on good ground, though.
On a losing streak since December 2012 and has shown little on all recent starts. All set to play another minor role in this despite receiving weight all round.
Forecasts
The Kid (11/4), Orthodox Lad (4/1), Shadow Blue (9/2), Mystery Drama (6/1), Karl Marx (7/1), Old Magic (12/1), Aramadyh (12/1), Whipcrackaway (14/1)
THE KID improved massively for the switch to handicap company last time, and is maybe a little lucky to be on the same mark after such a promising run. This looks the perfect time to take the small step forward require and finally get off the mark over hurdles. Karl Marx is another to consider provided he can prove he is as effective in the likely testing conditions the field will face today, as well as Orthodox Lad, who shouldn't have any issue with ease in the ground.
- The Kid
- Karl Marx
- Orthodox Lad
