Carries 7lb extra for winning at Plumpton but is open to improvement now that he tackles an extreme distance. He has adapted well to fences and will be a threat to them all if the blinkers have the same effect this time around.

Poor effort last time out at Lingfield and had previously given a good account of himself until jumping errors took the wind out of his sails at Market Rasen. Never won beyond 3m and, even though he stays well, others may have his measure on these terms.

Not the most reliable character and has posted a string of lacklustre efforts. Won this race in 2013 from a 9lb lower mark but has been way below that level recently and it is hard to see where the necessary improvement will come from in her effort to win a stronger renewal.

In good form, versatile regarding the ground, and worth a try over this longer trip. Only 4lb higher than his last wining mark (but has also won from a rating of 101), so also feasibly well treated on his current mark. One for the shortlist.

Put together a handful of solid efforts towards the back-end of last year and, with only five previous runs over fences currently to his name, he does still have scope for improvement. Possible a few quick runs took their toll when he dropped out tamely last time - he may be better than that, and merits closer inspection now his trainer, who is astutely adept at placing his stayers, sees fit to keep him to marathon distances.

Caught the eye with a decent effort on his reappearance for a new yard at Southwell last December; but has been poor in two subsequent starts and is hard to recommend on recent evidence. (Only ever won over 3m in point-to-points, so also has a bit to prove regarding his stamina.)

Age: 8|  Weight: 10-1| J: Mitchell Bastyan(10)| T: B Barr| OR:  80

Had dropped to a handy mark when winning at Lingfield last time and has scope for more improvement despite an 8lb rise. This is a significant step up in distance for him; but his rider's 10lb claim will help with the burden.

Age: 10|  Weight: 10-0| J: J E Moore| T: Mrs S Johnson| OR:  76

3lb wrong at the weights and very hard to fancy on this season's offerings. Last won off a mark of 80, so has an awful lot to find in this company.

Musical Wedge12
Age: 13|  Weight: 10-0| J: Jamie Bargary(3)| T: Miss C Dyson| OR:  70
50/1
Admirable veteran who tries his heart out but failed to make an impact on his only previous try over C&D and it's hard to get enthusiastic about his claims from 9lb out of the handicap. Also hasn't actually won a race since November 2013.

Forecasts

Veauce De Sivola (5/2), Dontminddboys (7/2), Water Wagtail (9/2), Royals And Rebels (7/1), Emma Soda (8/1), Armedanddangerous (12/1), Gale Force Oscar (16/1), The Last Bridge (25/1), Musical Wedge (50/1)

Verdict

There may have been excuses for DONTMINDBOYS's latest effort, as he had been kept very busy at the time and might have been feeling the effects of a couple of hard races. Freshened up by a longer break, he is worth another try over this sort of distance and is forwarded as the subject for a speculative punt on ground that should suit. Royals And Rebels needs to prove he has the stamina the trip but is in good enough form to merit consideration in this company; while similar comments apply to Water Wagtail, who is currently just 4lb above his last winning mark.
  1. Dontminddboys
  2. Royals And Rebels
  3. Water Wagtail
