Not been a great start to chasing for this former Henry Daly inmate who pulled up first time and was then going well enough, albeit it too early to be confident where he may have finished, when unseating last time. Stays well enough but a clear round looks the first priority.
Won a couple of chases last season, the latter from a 3lb higher mark than today's. Has won on good ground, though recent form has not hinted at a return to the number one spot just yet.
13lb higher than when taking a Perth novices' handicap chase in August by 17L and only just edged out at Ayr since then from 1lb lower than today. May have needed a break judged on his last couple of moderate efforts and can begin to rebuild from here for another spring and summer campaign.
Just 1lb higher than when winning over 2m3f at Market Rasen (good) last spring. Has usually taken a run or more to be cherry ripe after a break (his last run was in August) but a market check is advised given that the yard has been in tremendous form of late.
It's three years since he strung together a hat-trick of hurdles wins for Jonjo O'Neill and he remains unexposed as a chaser after just four starts for John Wade. Now with another trainer, whose runners are going well, and plenty of hope that he can kick on from here. Fairly treated, though has yet to win when fresh.
Beat everything bar a very well handicapped Sue Smith-trained runner at Catterick last time and in dropping him 1lb the assessor continues to give this prominent racer a chance. Going likely to suit him and entitled to respect.
Point-to-point winner who has been runner-up in both a bumper and more recently a Leicester handicap chase (2m6½f, soft). Jumping not always the most fluent and that could be put under pressure here. Tongue strap applied and this unexposed gelding is far from ruled out given a clear round.
Sole chase win was at Warwick in May 2015 from 3lb higher and his form of last season for Dan Skelton gives him the look of a well handicapped horse, though recent efforts uninspiring.
Beaten 12L as favourite at Doncaster last time but still raised 5lb for that, having scored at Sedgefield beforehand. Goes on any ground and did win from 6lb higher last year, so not one to be writing off.
18 months since he won a Fakenham maiden hurdle on his first start for this yard. Ran well in a handicap hurdle from 2lb higher in the autumn but only had two attempts over fences so far and lacks the experience of a number of these.
Consistent performer at this level and goes on any ground. Came good with back to back wins at Carlisle last spring and ran well here when runner-up off this mark last month. Well beaten favourite next time and has yet to win here in several attempts.
Off the track for a long time before returning in December. Shown little in two starts since the comeback but has previously been rated in the 120s at his best and has now slipped to a dangerously low mark. Interesting with forecast conditions to suit.
Forecasts
Powerful Symbol (9/2), Banny's Lad (11/2), Gold Ingot (6/1), Swing Hard (13/2), Nightline (13/2), The Cobbler Swayne (9/1), Leanna Ban (12/1), Clues And Arrows (12/1), Miami Present (18/1), Bright Prospect (20/1), Sergeant Pink (66/1), Notnowsam (66/1)
Leanna Ban is likely to make a bold bid from in the van and the tongue strap might help Powerful Symbol to show more, although his jumping needs some work. Banny's Lad has claims, as does Swing Hard, though the suggestion is CLUES AND ARROWS, who is unexposed and may be capable of a win now freshened up in a new pair of hands.
- Clues And Arrows
- Swing Hard
- Leanna Ban
