Got off the mark over hurdles over C&D two starts ago, though perhaps not as easily as his odds-on price suggested he would. Ran well enough in a Listed contest at Huntingdon last time before a mistake two out put paid to his chances. Hasn't been wholly impressive so far but remains the potential class act in the field.

Dual bumper winner who has won one of his three hurdle races so far, at Newton Abbot in October (2m2½f, good), before struggling at a slightly more competitive level last time. This is easier, and he looks to be still be on the improve for a top trainer.
Finished last of all in a Fontwell bumper last April before being pulled up in a novice hurdle won by subsequent Betfair Hurdle runner-up Movewiththetimes. Those two performances can't be seen as encouraging for his chances here, and he should find a few of these far too good.

Has been well beaten in all four racecourse appearances so far, including a bumper and three novice hurdles similar to this one. This is a slight step up in trip but there's no evidence to suggest that will bring about the necessary improvement for him to get competitive here.

Ran an eye-catching second at Wincanton last time out (1m7½f, good), when staying on strongly from the last. On that evidence this step up in trip should be exactly what he wants, though whether he has the class to beat some of these remains to be seen.

Has been improving since switching from point to point races to racing under rules, and his second place finish at 150/1 last time at Exeter (1m7f. soft) was a big step forward on his debut over hurdles. Is entitled to build on that here, with the extra half a mile sure to suit.

Forecasts

Bags Groove (1/3), Capeland (3/1), Molineaux (9/1), The Mighty Ash (25/1), Marble Mist (250/1), Keepyourheadup (250/1)

Verdict

Bags Groove could prove the best of these in time but in these early days of his career he has seemed a little inconsistent, failing to justify odds-on favouritism previously before winning when similarly fancied in workmanlike style two starts ago. He could easily do the job here, but he would be difficult to back with any confidence. Perhaps CAPELAND can provide the answer instead. He won two bumpers before getting off the mark over hurdles at Newton Abbott last time. He was well beaten on his most recent appearance but this should be an easier assignment for him. The progressive The Mighty Ash could fill the places at a likely big price.
