Has performed with credit over fence, being placed four times from six starts at trips from 2m to 2m4f. Out of sorts over both fences and hurdles of late and couldn't be confident about him just at the moment.

Point-to-point winner a couple of years ago and largely consistent over both hurdles and in hunter chases, despite not winning. Disappointed last time at Naas and will need to bounce back in style if proving good enough today.

1-21, that sole success coming at Ballinrobe in a four-runner hurdle in 2015. Form tailed off last year and failed to complete on chase debut in January. However, has the look of a spring horse and a return to better for is not ruled out.

Has failed to find any consistency over fences so far, his best effort being a couple of starts ago at Down Royal (2m, soft). Won a maiden hurdle this time last year on heavy and this could be a good opportunity for him to open his account over fences.

5/6
Point-to-point and dual hurdles winner who loves cut in the ground. Makes chasing debut today and if jumping is sound then his ability suggests that he would have a big chance, although the drop in trip is a possible pitfall.

20/1
Winner of a maiden hurdle here a year ago (2m6f, heavy) and then switched to fences, though has shown nothing in three starts in this sphere. Hard to recommend until we see a more positive performance.
Well beaten in nine of his 10 hurdles, the only positive being when placed at Tramore in January. Even so, translate that to his chasing debut here and he still has an awful lot to find.

Forecasts

Go It Alone (5/6), Double Scores (11/4), Asitsohappens (7/1), Captain Bizarro (10/1), Instant Smile (20/1), Definite Earl (25/1), Wilde 'n Wide (40/1)

Verdict

All of these carry risks in one way or another and with Gordon Elliott's string in such good form this could be the day that DOUBLE SCORES can put behind him some inconsistency to break his chasing duck. Go It Alone would be a major threat if this significant drop in trip does not find him out, while Definite Earl could return to form for those wanting to take a chance at longer odds.
  1. Double Scores
  2. Go It Alone
  3. Definite Earl
