Looked fairly useful for John Gosden before showing little after moving to Ireland. Acquired now by shrewd handler who can rejuvenate horses. Gave the impression he was on the way back when chasing home a course specialist at Newcastle. Steps back up in trip after disappointing over shorter last time and well handicapped on his best form.
Would have a chance on his best form but recent efforts raise doubts about his enthusiasm for racing. Blinkers are refitted but one to be cautious about.
Has been campaigning over a variety of distances and struck form here at the turn of the year. His C&D second has been followed by two less distinguished performances over shorter. Should be more effective here and stable have had a couple of winners recently.
Attracted support at Southwell in midweek but turned another poor effort on the fibresand. Seems better suited to this track where he has won three times. Turned over an in form rival at Kempton a month ago and gets a similar trip for the first time since. One to note in the betting.
Last two efforts reflect the quiet spell being endured by the yard who have only had one winner since October. Veteran who remains a maiden on the Flat but has claims if top rider can inspire an improved performance.
Has undoubted stamina but AW form is modest and he has only beaten one rival in his last two starts.
Irish raider representing a yard that have had a winner here previously. Has been given a fair bit to do in recent races but interesting now former champion booked to ride.
Could be considered well handicapped judged on form when trained by Jim Goldie. Has returned from an absence for a trainer with a reputation for improving horses. That has not been evident recently but market support would raise interest.
Irish mare who has fair form on the AW. No more than fairly handicapped on her best form and arrives here on the back of some lacklustre efforts over hurdles. Trainer is 4-10 with runners here over the past five seasons.
Has run to a consistent level for new trainer this winter over different trips. Back up to 1m4f having looked short of pace last time. Yard have been going well and today's rider has been a significant booking for them.
Has been campaigning in France this winter. Without a win since 2013 and readily opposed as a result.
Forecasts
Shamash (2/1), What Usain (5/1), Magistral (13/2), Pour L'Amour (7/1), Rock On Rosie (12/1), Trending (16/1), Grand Meister (16/1), Thorntoun Care (18/1), Uphold (20/1), Handsome Dan (20/1), Dovils Date (40/1)
This could turn out be a more competitive heat than normal for this grade around here with the two Irish challengers making this interesting. SHAMASH catches the eye on account of having a top rider booked. He has produced some eyecatching performances this winter and this could be his race. Ian Jardine saddles a pair who need to be checked in the market. Magistral is the most interesting having posted a good effort over this trip before finding trouble over shorter last time. Pour L'amour represents an in form trainer/jockey combination and she is back to her best trip.
- Shamash
- Magistral
